1920 - Evil Returns Has Good First Day
3 November 2012

1920 - Evil Returns has collected around 3-3.25 crore nett as per early estimates. The film fared best in areas like UP, Bihar, CP Berar and CI while collections in multiplex dominated areas were lower but still decent.

The film has a 9 crore approx cost including the budget along with print and advertising costs and going by the opening day it should recover this much share from the theatres across India even if the film does not grow much over the weekend.

The film will only last in the theatres for around 11 days as the big Diwali releases will then come but the horror genre has a small shell life so it will not make much difference to the final outcome of 1920 - Evil Returns.

1920 - Evil Returns Beats Heavy Promotion Spend Films
3 November 2012

1920 - Evil Returns has recorded better opening day collections than many medium budget films which had a big publicity spend like Kahaani, Gangs Of Wasseypur, Ferrari Ki Sawaari, and English Vinglish.

The publicity expenditure on these films was as much or more than the total cost of 1920 - Evil Returns but all these films recorded lower opening days than 1920 - Evil Returns which had very little publicity.

The heavy publicity must be for the initial as there is no other reason for such cost outlays but when sub 3 crore collections are recorded with heavy spends there must be a disconnect somewhere.

It can be argued that these films are only putting up these numbers due to the heavy publicity spends but how much lower can a English Vinglish go than a 2.25 crore nett day one or a Kahaani (2.85 crore nett day one) with less publicity.

A Kahaani works and sustains supremely well and emerges a hit but with the likes of Gangs Of Wasseypur, Ferrari Ki Sawaari and English Vinglish its the heavy promotional expenditure that keeps them down.

The difference with 1920 - Evil Returns is that the limited publicity spend gives the film chance to emerge a hit if the content works but with the others mentioned above huge sustenance is needed which only Kahaani managed.

A heavy promotional outlay will always be a heavy burden on a film unless it actually works and gives the desired results.

1920 - Evil Returns Has Good Saturday
4 November 2012

1920 - Evil Returns had a good Saturday as collections held up well. The film did not show huge growth but that was expected as the first day was strong.

The central India markets were all similar to Friday while North India managed to grow a little. The Saturday number should come in a little higher than Friday which means the film will going towards a 12 crore nett weekend.

The first 1920 film released in 2008 which was a success had done less lifetime business than what 1920 - Evil Returns will do in the weekend. The earlier film had grossed around 10.50 crore nett in its entire run.

1920 - Evil Returns Has Solid Weekend
5 November 2012

1920 - Evil Returns had a solid weekend of 11.50 crore nett as per early estimates. The opening was good and though the film did not grow much on Saturday and Sunday as the opening was good to come out with a strong weekend. Also the genre does not tend to show much growth.

The film has put up good numbers all over apart from Mysore circuit. The collections in UP, Bihar, CP Berar and CI are excellent and better than quite a few bigger films. The business in Mumbai Delhi and Punjab is also pretty good especially as these areas are dominated by multiplexes

If the film sustains over the next few days it will emerge as the surprise hit of 2012.
