Where did you get the soundtrack? I can't find it online & it isn't available in stores either here in Toronto.

I bought the CD at http://www.njmtv.com. It was the only place I could find it.

Also, check out Sneha Khanwalkar's song Tung Tung for MTV India's "Sound Trippin" show. The singers are Jyoti and Sultana Nooran, and Sneha's the one with the sound recorder and headphones in the video.

Sneha Khanwalkar is a great talent. After Oye Lucky Lucky Oye I had forgotten about her until Gangs of Wasseypur's soundtrack was released.

Gangs Of Wasseypur Has Dull Start
22 June 2012

Gangs Of Wasseypur had a dull start of around 10% across India at multiplexes and not much is expected from single screens.

Like Teri Meri Kahaani, this film was also not expected to open well but like that film the opening is lower than the low expectations from it. The film was promoted so it is was not one of those films where there is no awareness.

There were many shows which had audience counts of 10-15 people in 250 seat multiplexes. The morning collections were less than half of films like Shanghai and Ferrari Ki Sawaari and these films opened poorly.

The film will pick up as collections can't go down as they are too low but whether it can pick up enough to post even respectable numbers is a different story.

Sadly, this film isn't playing in any of the cinema houses here in Toronto. And it's the one hindi film that I was really looking forward to for this year. :(

Same here in the UK - the third film this year (after Ishaqzaade and Shanghai) that I wanted to watch, that hasn't been released.

‘Gangs of Wasseypur’ ensures recovery’
30 June 2012

‘Gangs of Wasseypur‘ revived to some extent by hanging on well at the box office. Though it’s opening weekend was a mere 10 crores, the collections didn’t fall badly over the weekdays as a result of which this Anurag Kashyap film enjoyed collections to the tune of 17.5 crores as the first week came to a close. Such sustenance at the box office means that the film would now be a coverage affair at the least and also a matter of prestige for the entire team since it would bring Part II with much more gusto. The stage has been set for the film’s sequel and it should do much better.

Meanwhile theatres have shown good confidence in continuing to screen the film in second week as well and given it good space. This Manoj Bajpayee starrer is looking at a life time total of 23-25 crore now which should be decent for the actor who would be enjoying his bigger commercial earner till date.

'Gangs of Wasseypur' sequel out on August 10
30 June 2012

The sequel to Anurag Kashyap’s Gangs of Wasseypur (GOW) will release on August 10, confirms Vikram Malhotra, COO Viacom18 Motion Pictures. The production house has apparently decided to release the second part earlier than planned, to cash in on part one’s box office acceptance.

Despite an ‘A’ certificate, GOW received a positive response from the audience and critical acclaim as well. It has already collected a net total of R 14.75 crore.

During the weekend, it saw 100 per cent occupancy in theatres, while on weekdays it was between 80 per cent and 90 per cent.

“The film, despite its blood and gore, grips you because it focuses on an important emotion – revenge. People are waiting to see how the drama enfolds,” says trade analyst Tarun Adarsh.

With a viewing time of five hours (part 1 and 2 together), Wasseypur is Anurag’s most ambitious project yet.

He says, “We took gamchas to Cannes and it became a style statement there with people wearing it over their Armanis. These innovative strategies helped us get away with such a long film.”

'Gangs of Wasseypur 2' to screen at Osian's Cinefan Film Festival 2012
12 July 2012

Yes, you read that right! For all the fans, Osian's Cinefan Film Festival 2012 is the platform to catch five hours of Gangs of Wasseypur extravaganza, which will include the second part as well. The second part, which is yet to release in India, will be shown first at the ten day long festival.

The trailer of Anurag Kashyap’s Gangs of Wasseypur 2 released on Twitter recently and became a trending topic in India.

“The audience will be very lucky this time to watch both the parts together in this festival,” said Raman Chawla, curator at a press conference on July 11, 2012.

Gangs of Wasseypur will be screened under the New Stream Cinema category. Other films that will screen under this catgory are: Mumbai Diary, Paan Singh Tomar, Shanghai, Temple and Vicky Donor.

After a gap of two years, the OSIAN’s Cinefan Film Festival is making a comeback with focus on Asian and Arab films with an additional theme of Freedom of Expression. “Hopefully the festival will be as good as always and much better in many other ways without any sabbaticals. OSIAN will play a fundamental role in celebrating 100 years of cinema. This year audience will see a very bold cinema as there is no boundary for these creative minds," said Neville Tuli, Chairman, OSIAN’s Group.

This year’s festival will see the best of Asian, Arab and Indian Cinema with 38 countries participating with a total number of 175 films, including 61 shorts.

Asura, a Japanese animated film by Keiichi Sato, deals with the aftermath of the natural disaster that hit Japan on 11 March, has been selected as an opening film in the festival. For the closing, Rituparno Ghosh’s Chitrangada has been picked, which talks about the third sex. The two films are handpicked for the respective ceremonies keeping in mind the Freedom of Creative Thought & Expression element in them.

“India has a passion for cinema but we don’t have a cinematic culture. We need to create that kind of atmosphere. In the last ten years, the change that we see has happened because of the film festivals. This time, we have chosen films which are trying to facilitate greater debates and dialogues”, added Tuli.

About the festival:

Dates: 27th July to 5th August
Venue: Sirifort Auditorium and The Kila Complex, Mehrauli in Delhi
