Of all the movies from Tamil, is this the best they could copy :( Very disappointed. Guys DO NOT SEE THIS. Just a CRAP.

I enjoyed Singam (the Tamil version) from a masala point of view - not a ground breaking movie, but good fun. Not interested in watching the remake though - Ajay Devgan has gone downhill big time recently, and I don't particularly want to spend money to see him scowling with his shirt off for 3 hours.

Singham Rock Steady Second Friday
30 July 2011

Singham was rock steady on its second Friday as it collected around 3.75 crore nett. Most circuits were pretty similar to its Thursday collections while the drop from last Friday is around around 55% plus.

The weekend should be very strong and record collections of at least 15 crore nett, they could even get close to 17 crore nett mark if the mass centres jump on Sunday like they did last Sunday.

The film is now a certain
Super Hit and should cross the 45 crore distributor share mark as it has an uninterrupted run until the release of Aarakshan on 12th August.

Saw this the other day. All the claims that this film is completely different to the original are complete utter rubbish. Some scenes are direct lifts. Pity that the biggest hits of the year so far aren't very good films.

Watched Singham last week. Too much dumb comedy in the first half and too much slow-motion walking throughout, but the action is good and very over-the-top. Overall enjoyable but forgettable. I haven't seen the original yet (the Blu-Ray is on its way to me), but from the few clips I've seen online Surya really chews the scenery, which is what a film like this needs. Ajay mostly broods darkly through the film.

Apparently Singam was remade in Kannada as Kempe Gowda and in Bengali as Shatru.

It isn't any surprise that Singam was remade in Bengali - every commercial Bengali film nowadays is a remake of a Tamil or Telugu film. (Actually, remake is giving it some respect - they are direct rip offs, even styling the main characters in the same way).

The trailers for Shatru were enough to put me off. Wonder how many other languages this is going to be remade in?!

I had no idea. What are some Tamil and Telugu films that were remade in Bengali?

Hindi Singam was not as entertaining...Ajay Devgan seemed miscasted in that role, and the famous punch dialogue scene lacked the power (and fun) that was present in the Tamil version.

The Bengali version looks interesting. Might have to check this out.

Someone posted me an e-mail stating that a Pakistani version (Urdu) is currently being filmed and that the blu-ray is being used as a shot reference :) - not sure if that was a joke...but you never know.

A few from memory:

Bommarillu - Bhalobasha Bhalobasha
Happy - Bolo Na Tumi Aamar
Gamyam - Dui Prithibi
Kadhal Konden - Amanush
Aata - Kellafate
Athadu - Wanted

The list is, unfortunately, endless. In addition to these, there are rip offs of Hindi and Marathi films too.

Singham SUPER HIT, Strong Start To Third Week
Saturday 6th August 2011

Singham started the third week on a strong note as collections were better on Friday than Thursday. The film collected around 2 crore nett on its third Friday as per early estimates. The weekend can be around 9-10 crore nett.

The film is getting benefit of no major competition as is Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara. Singham is being hugely driven by the Mumbai circuit where the film do around 42 crore nett business (Ready was 45 crore nett). This is in stark contrast to the North where it will do around 14 crore nett in Delhi/UP (Ready was 26.50 crore nett) while East Punjab will be around 5.75 crore nett (In East Punjab Ready did 5.66 crore nett in week one alone).

Overall the film is a Super Hit as it should comfortably top the 45 crore distributor share mark and may even go and do around a 47 crore share which would be amongst the top ten ever.
