Ali I agree with ur reasoning that this is "on-par" with other releases from EROS, lately. But There is still a subtle difference between them and Devdas, and that being, this film got a proper release here in North America and is also being showcased in a major retail outlet here in North America (BlockBuster)...
This DVD , thus, needed a special treatment.... Hell I remember yoru reviews abt DDLJ which Yashrak had released. In retrospect I will say that DDLJ is way ahead of this Crappy Devdas DVD.
Just to add to this, I think the fact that Eros deems this film to be worthy of a higher retail price for it's DVD would be a good enough reason for Eros to have delivered a better than average DVD.
Another thing, more than DEI/Eros/Video Sound/WEG etc, you know what pisses me off the most? It is the attitude of most Indian DVD customers to accept this pathetic state of affairs. And even more aggravating is, that of these people actually continue to make excuses for these lame companies and their poor DVDs. The whole situation with Indian DVDs is no less than, blatant exploitation of the monoplostic nature of this business. Legitimate paying customers are being ripped off and cheated almost to the point of it being illegal. Something I am sure that could be atleast brought up with the 'Better business bureau' if not prosecuted in court.
PS:
1) The reason why I include DEI in this list is that they too had become no less exploitive than their counterparts. How so? DEI DVDs lately had become the most painful to watch, due to the looooooooooooooooong self promotional commercials and other paid commercials before the feature presentation. To make matters worse, they would disable all the control buttons on the DVD player so that one could not even stop the DVD once inserted. I for one am glad DEI went kaput, because quite simply I could no longer stand their DVDs and their bullshit self promotion with no concern for the consumer whatsoever. I actually would much rather settle for slightly lower quality than DEI but without the forced commercials and disabling of buttons.
2) How is this business a monopoly? Quite simply, because each DVD is a unique product (we buy the DVDs for the films on them and not for the media itself) and since only one company has the right to make and sell that product that company becomes a monopoly.
