I anyone wants I can put up some caps and do a preview of Priyadarsan's Malayalam hit "CHANDRALEKHA," which was remade into the inferior "Har Dil Jo Pyar Karega" with nanga man himself, Sallu.

Reply to this thread if you do! I'd be wasting time if I put it up and no one finds use for it ;)

That'd be great, Raj. I remember I did a mini-review sometime back in the Reviews section (along with one for Yodha (Mohanlal)), but couldn't add screen caps becos my DVDROM drive wouldn't play the disc.

Surya hasn't put out any new DVDs since Chandralekha. I wonder why. The last time I emailed them regarding the sound problems of their discs, they replied saying that they were working with their DVD-authors to rectify it. They've got a lot of Mohanlal films (Pingami, Nirnayam, Irupatham Noottandu etc.) under their "Coming Soon on DVD" section.

Chaver.

For a look at Mohanlal before COMPANY, here are the screenshots. Sorry for being late.

Generally good transfer, but sound sucks, and subtitles suck.

Read chaver's review above for more details.

Note: I do believe this DVD is Anamorphic since the subtitles appear in the picture frame. Someone please confirm.

Drab as hell cover, even beats DEI!!

few good mallu hits!

There's no bio, just names and pics of the actors here!

Trying to fool the uncle into putting out some moolah! (These scenes were copied into YTGYMG, another Priyadarsan flick)

It's all on Mohanlal's shoulders

Pretty good video quality.

Mr. Anil Kapoor himself appears courtesy of Priyadarsan's Bollywood connection.

Great mallu comedy, spoiled by subtitles.

Chandralekha DVD by Surya is indeed anamorphic.

Just noticed on the Surya website that they have released two more Mohanlal flicks (Nirnayam and Kanmadam) on DVD. Now if Raj could do some previews... :DD:

I'll order the DVDs and do them as soon as I get em!
By the way, this DVD is authored by Media Dimensions we keep hearing so much about.

Where do u get u'r Mallu DVD fix? I've always used theMahal, but lately, they don't seem to be carrying any of the newer Surya releases.

It seems somebody called Rafa has also released a DVD of Niram; any comments on the quality of this one, Raj? Is it atleast anamorphic?

I usually get all my DVDs online from themahal.com, but I get the new ones at a local Indian mallu store.

Actually Niram was a Surya release, starring Shalini, and Kunchakko Boban. It was a bit different for a SURYA DVD in that it was not presented in widescreen format at all. So someone else, possibly RAFA, may have been involved.

What I mean is that:

- The DVD was in PAN & SCAN, the same version that was released by SURYA on VHS.

- Being so, it had horizontally scrolling ads on the bottom throughout the whole movie.

This was distracting and the quality was only a bit better than a good VHS, so I avoided buying it.

Raj

Thanks Raj, for the Niram info. I have emailed Surya, asking about the aspect ratio for Kaalapani, Chenkol and Minnaram. After seeing those screenshots of Dhruvam that you posted, I guess I'll get these DVDs, as long as they are not pan-and-scam.
