I rented this a while back. The DVD is by Pyramid, so picture and sound is quite bad. The disc does have English subtitles, but poorly translated as is usual for Tamil DVDs. Good film (Haasan is excellent), deserves better treatment on DVD.

Thanks man!! Are there any chances that Ayangran may pick this up and give us a nice, anamorphic, possibly DTS transfer?

BTW!! Any news on New INDIAN dvd? is it Prog? with DTS???

According to the BBFC website, no-one's had the rights to Nayagan in the UK since 1992, so it seems like there's nothing stopping Ayngaran from releasing their own DVD for the British market at least.

And yep, the new Indian DVD is definitely 100% progressive and with DTS. I'll take some screenshots tomorrow. :)

Nayagan was shot in 1.37:1 ratio, and is originally in mono, so no anamorphic DTS.

I recently downloaded a DVD-rip of this film and I didn't feel it lived up to the hype.

FYI, none of the DVD that comes in Pyramid title are copyrighted material. They have copyright for VHS in Singapore/Malaysia only.

AP international is releasing all MR movie in India in a better quality than Pyramid (and has DTS too), so they may also do it.

As far as ayngaran goes, they are still trying to get Devar Magan (the sale of Devar Magan DVD could very well exceed any Tamil DVD they have sold so far - it is a bible for tamil movie lovers). Hopefully they will release that soon.

BTW Pyramid released "Kadamai Kanniyam Kattupadu". It is for movie critics. A class movie, with great performance from Satyaraj. Its a RajKamal production and probably the first movie with out song (in modern days atleast).

I have been longing to get this DVD and finally got it!!!! Its pyramid, but still something is better than nothing.

I believe Pyramid Films produced Sangamam and Rhythm, so those are the only two official DVDs :)

I love this SS. A great way to watch Nayagan

Recent pyramid DVDs are of better quality. Yesterday I watched Dhavanik Kanavugal and I believe they lifted the print from SunTV! Its crystal clear, atleast for a 27 inch TV. Will post SS later.

I wish tamilini does Devar Magan and Nayagan.
