The following shots are from the Ayngaran DVD

The movie was a personal disappointment for me, This year is infact weak for Tamil films ( maybe Hindi also ) and Kamal Hassan's Mumbhai Xpress (MX) is a fine example of my feelings. Kamal who is usually "good" with comedy seems to have pretty uninspiring stuff in his arsenal. The film is loosely based on both Kurosawa’s High and Low and the Argentinean flick Nine Queens, however both are much superior to MX, The problems I had with MX is the pacing and insipid dialogs ( perhaps crazy mohan could have helped in dialogs - who knows) . The plot and the characters just exist and nothing more. The only thing i liked about the movie was the "experimentation" - they used digital cinema and also used pretty weird camera angles ( seems more inspired than intersting !) , also IR's music score seems to be choppy and i have a feeling either the editor or the censor board screwed it up .

Seeing digital cinema for the first time really threw me off , I am not a videophile and i like to spend more time with the "content" than the "carrier" – that said this movie looked like a TV serial to me, is this how digital cinema looks ?, felt weird

As for the DVD , given its coming from a digital source 'directly' the DVD is pretty lame and you can see examples of that in the screenshots ( ghosting and other digital artifacts are predominant - is this normal ?), the colors however looked good. I did see the occasional grain but nothing that stands out.

The movie and the DVD is for die-hard Kamal Fans only, for the rest of us its a rental or a pass :)

Doesn't look to me like the DVD was made directly from the digital files, though it is odd that the censor card is not letterboxed at 2.35:1.
