Following the success of THIRUMALAI, Vijay is working hard for another hit. He is working for GILLI, a remake of Telugu hit, OKKADU, now. He plays a Kabaddi player in the film. For that he underwent learning the play Kabaddi. It is directed by Dharani and produced by A M Rathnam.

The film is costliest project for producer Rahtnam, for a huge set has been erected at Mahabalipuram by art director Maniraj at the cost of Rs 2 Crores. The production is now in full swing at this set. Trisha acts opposite Vijay. It is scheduled for release on April 14, 2004. Music is by Vidyasagar.

Vidyasagar is awesome. Who did the music for Okkadu, Manisharma?

I think Prakashraj is also the villain in this version.

I watched my first telugu film, OKKADU. I'm pleasantly surprised how entertaining it was. It's a pure masala movie. Prakash Raj steals the show in his role of the eccentric villain. Mahesh Babu reminds me of Madhavan from RUN. Bhoomika looked great and acted very well.

The dvd pq was decent. It was in DD and couldn't find the DTS option contrary to what the dvd cover states.

Now I can't wait for GILLI dvd to see what changes they made to the movie and Trisha Krishnan. :P

I've been looking for it to rent, but all I find is the pirate version, and I don't know if I would watch it enough to justify buying the original, though the songs are pretty good.

The same combination Mahesh Babu and Gunasekhar are making another film "Arjun" which is supposedly another action film. They have setup a Madhura Meenakshi set which is even more elborate compared to the Charminar set of Okkadu.

I hope they are successful in this venture. I am a little skeptical because second films in the same combination dont usually work. Here are the pictures of the set

Looks like the Telugu film industry is going through a boom time. Sri Anjaneya, Arjun, Naani, all look like fairly expensive films.

Also, it's very encouraging to see Tamil Pitamagan was dubbed into Telugu and is doing very well in AP. If the audience change, we can expect to see better pictures like in Tamil.

Both of those i.e. high budgets and good pictures work against each other. You will get good pictures only if people start making movies with popular stars on smaller budgets

This year's Missamma and Satyam have been great . I hope the trend continues

By the way the cycle always goes from boom to bust to boom to bust ...

thats exactly what i said when i watch Okkadu & Run..they are very similar flix in many aspects. I think Run was released after Okkadu..either way Okkadu is a better film. I also want to watch Gilli for Trisha Krishnan  & to see how a different director handles the same script. anyway, both Okkadu & Run, I liked the interesting relationships the 'heros' had with their dads. LOL its also interesting how the dad from the telugu okkadu is going to be playing the role of the father in the hindi run :D

cant wait for Arjun. false statement about "same combination" second films...although Gunasekars "Mrugaraju" failed with Chiranjeevi after a successful "Choodalani Vundi" LOL. anyway, i'd like to recall the likes of Ram Gopal Varma and Nagarjuna combinations. although "Govinda Govinda" was a disaster at the box office, it was indeed a great film! it has the best music by Raj-Koti EVER.

Cant remember two films in the same combination being a hit (atleast not with any consistencey). Care to give examples to the contrary?
