What a wonderfull job you have done posting screen caps from all these oldies and I must commend you for that. If ever there is an award on Zulm for the member who contributes more to keep this site alive I want you to know that my vote can easily be bought! :D It is also refreshing to see that none of these posts are marred with questions if they are interlaced or progressive! It would seem though that your choice of screen caps are very subjective! Take for instance Mehbooba although most of the dvd shows vibrant colors, there are clear signs of color fading through out a whole scene, not to mention heavy worn damage and speckles. :D If anything it would be better served if you can at times include some of these defects also, in order for those who have not seen the DVD to get a better understanding of what to expect. Just my opinion and no harm is intended! :D

If only I knew the difference between progressive and interlaced... One day I will get RANA or someone to educate me...

Thanks for your support, it does truly encourage me to continuing contributing to zulm.net.

With regard to the screenshots, I must admit there has been a bias to capture the best possible shots from the dvds, as I wanted some nice stills from these classics in my collection. Having said that, there is only so much I can do, and crap transfers like AASHA, LAKSHMI and SANAM TERI KASAM appear crap no matter what I do! But I will try to be more objective in the future.

Please continue your comments on these screenshots, and feel free to ask for any particular dvd screenshots you want from the 1970s/early1980s movies.

I was away. :D

BTW, If a question regarding DVD encoding (progressive or interlaced) marrs a topic, I'm sure you are content with what we are getting these days in DVDs. In that case, why not VHS at a cheaper price??

Although we pay for a film DVD, it's OK to get a Video DVD. But, it must be a direct film to NTSC or Film to PAL and not a "film to PAL to NTSC" that we get 80% of the time these days.

Oh arsh miyan why must you admonish me when it wasn't necessary? I am being objective and do appreciate Rana Ji's education on interlace, progressive and the various method of transfers! However, to have the same thing shove down your throat at every turn, then it does become bothersome and boring! :D Do give us credit for our level of understanding afterall we aren't third graders anymore. If I recall I was complementing armaan's efforts alright and had no intention for this to become an other discussion on anything otherwise! :D

to have the same thing shove down your throat at every turn

1) It's only objective to share the information wheher a DVD was encoded in Film mode, Video mode and if it went through a "no no" "Film to PAL to NTSC" transfer.

2) I agree, explaining (reading or posting) what Film mode, Video mode, and "Film to PAL to NTSC", 'Field Averaging" etc mean, does become boring, even for the first time.

But, Reviews are not meant for entertainment.

I try not to jump in about explaining this stuff, unless asked. For example, Armaan asked for this kind of info in this thread. The same explaination/ info gets repeated, in many topics and threads, as I/many find it faster to reply directly instead of searching that topic and posting a link. Moreover, the link may not have a fitting explaination to the querry.

3) Have we pointed to Video mode and "Film to PAL to NTSC" transfers too often?? As we are getting more and more DVDs that are not the Industry Standard Film to NTSC, either the DVD makers haven't noticed this yet or they don't care.

BTW, thanks for welcoming me back.

Rana
