good review faddy - it looks like the UK company did a stellar job with the transfer (even though it's a low budget film!).

Guys, look at this pic and tell me this doesn't have one of the best video transfer of an Indian film: Image

I totally forget about the rental of this release – the full retail DVD is coming on November 18 with the following spec;

- Audio commentary with director and co-writer

- Behind-the-scenes featurette including premiere footage and never-seen-before outtakes

- 'Gurinder's Indian K~tchen' The director demonstrates how to cook AIo Gobi

- Never-seen-before deleted scenes

..picture audio will be probably match this rental release. BTW it's not such a rushed release as to this how its meant to be for a rental - no extras. Helkon SK are no strangers to DVD, they have previously released hi-quality PAL DVDs of The Gift, Mothman Prophecies and Under Suspicion. They just have this thing about a rental window release before releasing the retail version.

I will most probably be getting this release. I never doubted that the release of this dvd would have a bad picture or bad sound because it is not made by any of eros/videosound/YRF/WEG/Sky/baba/Apollo/soven/Spark
who are complete nincompoops. Anyone in the world who is not listed above can do a great dvd transfer.

Look at the budget of devdas, a film that done well at home as well as internationally, to this plain low grade brit flick.

Has anyone sent any emails/threats to the above companies about their sh*t dvds because at the moment they seem to not realise that they are a disgrace and keep on doing the same mistakes over and over again. Even 5 yrs olds learn from their mistakes.

We should bombard them with emails or something. Maybe a petition? Its time for some action to be taken.

Bend It Like Beckham is distributed by iDream Productions and most of their titles have made in onto DVD through Cinebella. Although having said that they did also distribute Monsoon Wedding which got a release from Universal on DVD.

I rented the pirate DVD today and it is a really good film. The script balances the serious theme of the film with some humor so that watching the film isn't a depressing drag. I also liked how Jules' mother disapproved of her playing ball, showing that Indian parents aren't the only ones who can disapprove of their children's activities. All the actors gave good performances, and the cinematography was also good.

This theme of one or both parents in an NRI family (or NRP for East is East) wanting their children to obey their wishes seems to be a recurring theme in these films made by young South Asians abroad. American Desi, American Chai, East is East, Mississippi Masala, Bend it Like Beckham, all have it as a major theme. My Father's Daughter may have it also, but I haven't seen it so I don't know. Hopefully the parents see these films so that they can be less like the parents in these films.

tell u the truth i dont really like the movie.. its pretty dumb if u ask me.. the only reason i rented the DVD was to hear how B21 sounded...

It's not great art, but it was entertaining. It could have been a much worse film. I wonder how it'll do when it hits the US in April '03.

Question about Bend It Like Beckham (R2 PAL) review.


I am sure, the DVD is 4% speed shifted as standard accepted practice. Then, by default, isn't it progressive. I think, all PAL Film DVDs, if 4% speed shifted, have regular video field pairs with no filler fields to mess up the original film frames.

Can anyone confirm that when playing this DVD via Power DVD Force Weave, we don't get any combing??
