(Ali can you check this link) http://www.zulm.net/cgi-bin/ikonboard.cgi?act=ST;f=2;t=343

This was what you had till todate, the YRF version of SANGAM ( The 1964 RK Films classic ). However its again time for you folks to ditch the YRF version for a vastly improved version of Sangam.

This DVD has been done from a proper film master ( aka a progressive source - with sufficient wear and tear and also excessive use of DVNR indicating blurring in fast moving sequences ) unlike a poor master used by the YRF version.

Alas, no change in the audio ( hissing is present, so this DVD doesnt score aggressively on this front vis-a-vis the YRF version).

Choices for you :- Preview both the YRF & Shemaroo versions and then I am certain you will definately choose the Shemaroo version !...
I am already planning to get rid of my YRF version of this film

One more feature that I have noticed is the presence of Vibrant colors in this film and a high bit rate for fast moving and scene change sequences. (Are we seeing the advent of VBR in Bollywood DVDs ?).

My verdict :- As usual Dump the YRF version and grab the cheaper and (mostly superior [not vastly] ) version of this film which is also characterized by its cheaper price in this part of the world

Shemaroo may not be the best, but definitely better than whatever the Yashraj DVD print.

I love the colours of the Shemaroo DVDs, very lively.

Shemaroo DVDs are not for sale outside India :plain:

However, what Sknath is so kindly reviewing for us here are replicated discs from the originals, and I believe he is in Canuckland. So check local Indian stores for them.

Personally, I've had no luck locating replicated Shemaroo discs in the US :( Maybe our friend Sknath can buy them in bulk and we can put in our orders to him...

Dragun nope our Doston ka Dost Afzal @ IW can be of more help. He can procure them for you... If you are interested in purchasing them from Cannuckland then you should get in touch with either
Sunish or
Anyone else in Toronto as the stores are in Toronto...
Try Apollo Video they stock these replicated discs

You can get their fone numebr/address from the Awara-Shemaroo thread :)

Yes, I did identify full 238 min of orig film run time, from Esq VHS of 232 min 1974 release film time and 6 min of audio only that must have been in 1964 release.
Quote:
viewtopic.php?f=1&t=3033&st=0&sk=t&sd=a&hilit=sangam&start=30
1964 release = 238 min
1974 film print = 232 min.
Esq VHS = 223 min @ 4% speed up (232 min film time)
YRF DVD = 213 min @ 4% speed up (222 min film time)
Shemaroo DVD = 187 min @ 4% speed up (195 min film time)

I wonder how long is the Zee version ??
Was it in PAL from "Film to PAL master" ?? It looks like, as SSs are pretty sharp and it's mostly/ all time PAL broadcasts in UK where Ali captured these SSs.
If so, don't expect the same quality from North American telecast as it will be PAL to NTSC converted.

Not sure about the runtime on Zee but it was without any combing/interlacing effects.
