Saw a 2.35:1 Monitor Screen advertisement.
So:
Recall 4:3 Screen days and Anamorphic DVDs for 16:9 screens. Anamorphic video gave full 480 resolution for 16:9 material, that otherwise would have been only 360 lines if video was not anamorphic.
Similarly, for 16:9 (standard Hi Def screen) you do get full 1080 lines of horiz res for a 16:9 video but you get only 810 lines horiz res for a 2.35:1 video (remaining 270 lines are wasted on black bars at the top and bottom). As 2.35:1 screens become available, and 2.35:1 film AR is already common, do we expect anamorphic type encoding to give full 1080 horiz resolution for 2.35:1 videos ??
