Even though I own a Region B player, I think it is a poor decision to region lock it. Guess Cinedrome's loss.

Region locking is decided by the rights you have. Nobody locks if they don't have to...

Looks like my decision to go 'Region Free' is paying of well. First the Bodega 'Jodhaa Akbar' BD and now 'Dil Chahta Hai'. I say bring it on baby. :)

Although technically you guys are right, what I don't understand is how come other rights' holders can then go ahead and release the same titles 'Region Free' for eg. Big Video with 'Jodhaa Akbar'. In such a situation I think the sub-titles and 'dubbed audio track' could serve as deafult region demarcators. After all, anyone who does not understand French or Hindi is probably not going to find much value in the Bodega 'Jodhaa Akbar'. The same logic would apply to the German 'Jodhaa Akbar' BD. Thus, this leaves the field open for UTV outside India, except France & Germany, and for Big Video in India. Although, the Big Video BD is good to go elsewhere too, since it has English sub-titles. Since I am sure, no Indian company is ever going to Region code their BD releases, just as they have never done for DVDs, I seriously don't understand why other distributors are forced to Region code. Specially since their product will be of limited appeal anyhow due to the 'language' used for sub-titles and 'dubbed audio tracks'.

Does anybody know whether Cinedrome will be doing a new audio mix on the forthcoming Blu-ray?

No new audio mix. Master tape quality 5.1 as mixed for original film.
