Thanks urbanlegend for trying. Well, if wikipedia is not interested, good for them. Anyone interested in researching MNJ sure will run a Google search and that sure will lead them (and it does) to zulm.net.

Here (p 4 of this thread) I have identified existing video footage, in my possesion (segments from just two sources Esquire VHS & YRF DVD), of 245 min (film time) and we collectively have also identified various audio segments, that are avail here and there, that bring the identified MNJ run time to 255-259 min (obviously, not all audio, avail on release, was included in the 255 min 1970 censored version, but some of the missing verses sure must have been in the 255 min censored version).

Quote:
Total Film time (available on video) is as follows:

Using Existing YRF DVD and Esquire VHS:
Part 1 = 72:38
Part 2 = 94:24 (title song 75 sec audio not counted)
Part 3 = 77:56

Total 1,2,3 = 244 min 58 sec

so that part was in the original release of the film?

surely isn't in any dvd...

I don't remember what was in the orig release, but do remember "Jaane Kahan Gaye Wo Din----", with excellent music, seemed like never ending song.

On the other hand, Nitin Mukesh (some stage show) sung verse (from lyrics notebook) had some verses missing, that ARE in the film.

Saw this Nitin Mukesh sung stage show version that has these missing lines. It's "A Tribute To Raj Kapoor" (SRK, Nitin Mukesh, Juhi Chawla, Mahima Chaudhry, Anupam Kher etc) that was telecast on Sony TV in Year 2000.
DVD that I saw is by "India Sun".

(The DVD has some abrupt cuts and also another Nitin Mukesh sung verse that I've been looking for is not in this DVD but I expected it to be in this show. It's the Sangam Song O Mere Sanam full version. I've it somewhere in one of my VHSs, though.)

Naval Stars Show -- Joker Sings
There was a 20 - 30 min B/W or color documentary "Naval Stars Show -- Joker Sings" that was made and shown in theatres to promote Mera Naam Joker (before M N J release). The Naval Stars Show was held for the welfare of Indian Navy (Officers or for Jawans or ??). Live music of course was by Shakar Jaikishan and their live orchestra. Master Of Ceremony sure must have been Ameen Sayani. Showing of the documentary was always heavily advertised to promote the film being shown in the theatre. It sure was a big draw. I don't remember if the documentary was in color or it was B/W. Color films were not that common yet. In that case, a documentary must have been B/W. I have a faint memory of that Naval Stars Show being held on an Indian Navy Ship ?? Or, at least the stage, in the documentary, looked as if the show is being held on a ship. I remember Raj Kapoor performing "Ae Bhaaii Jara Dekh Ke Chalo". I think, he actually sang this song too (not Manna Dey, the actual playback singer of this song). And that's why the title/ promoted as "Joker Sings". All were surprised how well Raj Kapoor sang this song.
Perhaps, this was the first stage show of this kind that was also filmed for a documentary ??

Does any one remember this documentary ?? If this documentary can be found, sure will make a great extra.

Above quote is from one of my earlier posts. Today I found this show also mentioned in wikipedia:

Quote:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shankar-Jaikishan
S-J staged a show in Shanmukhanad Hall, Mumbai in 1970 under the aegis of the Indian Navy. In terms of attendance and grandeur, it remains unsurpassed to this day, thus providing a public seal of approval to their leading status in the industry.

In recently started thread, Muz & bhaskar gave a Russian DVD website link that has many Indian DVDs in Russian. Their runtimes are different than the Bollywood DVDs. Some longer, some shorter. (Mamta DVD is close to 180 min whereas it's less than 120 min in Hindi DVD). Hopefully, we'll find a Russian Mera Naam Joker DVD that sure will have some extra footage for the Russian viewers.

YOUTUBE and Internet Zindabaad.

Found these clips (Joker Sings/ Naval Star Show/ Shanker Jaikishan Nite 1970) on youtube. From memory (1970), I thought this song (Ae Bhai Zara Dekh Ke Chalo, clip # 10) was at a faster pace in the show ?? (See Raj Kapoor sing in his own voice, Ae Bhai Zara Dekh Ke Chalo - He sings so good)
(Mera Naam Joker songs are in #5, #9, #10)

(It was a huge huge show, organized by Raj Kapoor (as stated in documentary), attended by all the political and Bollywood heavyweights. Including the then President Of India V V Giri, Navy retiring chief Admiral Chatterjee and new chief Admiral Nanda)

Could someone please bring these Youtube clips here in this thread. (I don't know the trick). Thanks.

Another clip with SJ Nite 1970 heading but perhaps it's from another show ??

Thanks for the encouragement.

I hope you like some of these clips.

There is some confusion about the venue/ clips.

The starting clip sure is the correct one from "Naval Star Show" 1970. (Ameen Sayani introducing all the celebrities)
He mentions venue to be Brabourne Stadium (or something similar pronouncing).

Some clips sure are labeled for Shanker Jaikishan Nite 1970 Part V, VI, VII etc and are from "Naval Star Show".

Some are labeled "Shankar Jaikishan Night at Samnukhan" that too Shanker Jaikishan Nite 1970 ??

One clip mentions Raj Kapoor presented Shanker Jaikishan Nite at "Samnukhannad Hall"
http://www.allvoices.com/people/Shankar ... o/46082240

If we assume it to be correct, then all clips are from the same show.

Then, Is Brabourne Stadium same as "Samnukhannad Hall" ??

---------------------------------------------------------------
The documentary obviously exists. I wish someone does justice to this documentary and releases a good quality DVD/ BR from the original footage ??

http://wikimapia.org/#lat=19.031085&lon ... =Brabourne

Naval Stars Show documentary (starting lines) clearly says, show held at Brabourne Stadium.
Brabourne Stadium is at Oceanfront, obvious choice for Naval Show.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bORnQCJx ... re=related

Shanmukhananda Hall is 12 KM away from Brabourne Stadium and is not on the waterfront.
(Shanmukhananda Hall (Mumbai City District) Asia's largest auditorium with the highest seating capacity. Venue for Fimfare awards for many years.

Wikipedia, Youtube and all other references that claim NAVAL STAR SHOW to have been held at Shanmukhananda Hall are in error.

There sure was/ were more Shankar Jaikishan Nite/ Nites at Shanmukhananda Hall some other time/ Times, but the NAVAL STARS SHOW JOKER SINGS was at Brabourne Stadium.

Another interesting comment:

Shankar Jaikishan did many programs for charity, for colleges and in aid of Indian defence forces !

One of the program "Shankar Jaikishan night" held in 1966 led to mammoth 13.5 crore(some say figure was ard 20 crore or was it for Naval show? ) in terms of bonds, saving etc !. Imagine what will be 13 crore's value today ?

Shankar Jaikishan did one more big grand program in aid of Indian Navy called "NAVAL STARS" in 1970.

Randhir Kapoor Says:

Mera Naam Joker was a Super Flop for RK Films.
But, as of today, it's Super Duper Duper Hit.

Quote:

(Exact Randhir Kapoor wordings in video link - may or may not be perfect English, but in conversation, anything comes out)
In those days, we were under great stress, financial stress that is, because of the great colossal debacle that Mera Naam Joker Was. Mera Naam Joker, as some of you might be knowing, was Raj Kapoor's favorite picture, it was closest to his heart, he was very fond of the picture. And, it was made with great passion, great love and lots & lots of money for those days. The picture did not run and my father was heart broken. It was really r -- (years) later on, and today I want to share with all of you and the whole world, but as of today, Mera Naam Joker is the biggest profit point for the RK Films and Studios. Jab Lagti Hai, Jahan Lagti Hai, Television Pe, Screens Pe, Television Mein, Sabse Jyaada Paisay Humko Miltaty Hain Us Picture Kay. And for us, it's a Super Duper Duper Hit. I'm sure, wherever Raj Kapoor is in this world, up somewhere or may be sitting with us, he will be very very proud and happy for MERA NAAM JOKER.

IIFA and TIFF will showcase the evergreen films of Raj Kapoor

Mera Naam Joker, as some of you might be knowing, was Raj Kapoor's favorite picture, it was closest to his heart, he was very fond of the picture.

Now, how can we get this message to RK Films,
PLEASE GIVE US THE FULL 255 min VERSION OF MERA NAAM JOKER
(& Sangam too).

Almost full content of Mera Naam Joker has been identified, second by second, in this thread and where to find video/ audio of the segments missing from Yash Raj version of DVD.
Shemaroo DVD should not be considered a "Mera Naam Joker" DVD, as it's cut by more than an hour. It should suffice as "Preview to Mera Naam Joker".

sasural,

That scene (Simi drying clothes) was as per the plot. The scene was tastefully done. In today's Bollywood films, it's no big deal.

Perhaps you are hinting at the dream sequence scene, it was a far distance shot and a body double was used.

----------------------------------------------
Request: I would like RK films to see this thread for us to get a full version of MNJ. So, to keep it decent, please delete your above comment and I will delete this post too.

Thank you.

As per the plot: It was not she, but just any girl in the dream sequence, and hence the justification for using Body Double. Moreover, it was a far distance shot from back, no big deal. This was in 1970s. As early as 1937, there was a similar scene in a all time Hollywood Classic, The Lost Horizon and it was the film heroine and not a body double.

my guess now is that the traumatized look on his face was also in good taste.Or was that also a double
