Can anyone comment on the video/audio quality of the Thai PAL DVD version of SHOLAY which was released this year?

It's up for sale at http://www.ethaicd.com/show.php?pid=37156.

It's listed as Full Screen, Hindi 2.0, and English subtitles.

I foolishly bought this DVD a while ago, only to discover that it is not actually PAL or even a different DVD. It's simply a straight copy of the current Eros disc with a Thai dubbed track added on.

Can this thread be merged with the one below, instead of having another Sholay topic...?

REM is releasing Sholay. Wonder if it is the same source as Carlotta. Some details here:

It's not the director's cut REM are releasing, so more than likely they will use the same video as Carlotta's. It won't a 2-disc release though, so the bitrate will suffer.

The director's cut was shot in 4:3. The theatrical version was 2.35:1

The only director's cut in the market is the Eros/B4U version.

i've seen sholay in theatres several times in several cities -- all through, the theatrical version was 4:3 or nearabouts, bt definitely never 2.35:1. How many zulmis remember seeing sholay in theatres in 2.35:1?

I remember posters of Sholay having words "Cinemascope" and "Stereophonic Sound", when it was released in 1975.
BTW, Sholay was released on 15th August 1975.

Sholay was Cinemascope = 2:35.1. Same for Leader and Son of India

Sholay was the first film to be in 70mm

it's only a redone print of sholay sometime in the last few years that was cinemascope -- this was screened at select theatres in mumbai.

the original sholay released in theatres in 1975 was never cinemascope. some of these prints were 70mm (but not cinemascope), but most of the prints were 35mm (not 2.35:1 but 4:3 or nearabouts).

do visit other sholay threads on zulm and google for more info, and for "cinemascope versus widescreen versus 2.35:1 versus panavision" etc ;-)

My father worked in a cinema during the 70's and he almost certain that it was 2.35:1/Cinemascope.

Same goes for Shaan and Shalimar during that time too
