Folks, got news for you. Because of the "freezing problem", I had to return Om Shanti Om back to the retailer. That dvd was replicated by JET SPEED. Today, I chanced upon the same product -- 2-disc edition with free poster by Eros -- but this one's replicated by SONY MUSIC ENT. (INDIA) PVT. LTD.!! (It says so on the back!) Have bought it am hoping this has the same amazing 5.1 as the one replicated by JET SPEED, but without the freezing problems of the JET SPEED version!NewDeep wrote:

re sound...for some reason on om shanti om, stereo sound was better than the 5.1...anyone else?
Got the OSO DVD yesterday - have to agree - 5.1 sound sucked! We were watching the songs and my wife said 'What's wrong with the sound?' We switched to the stereo soundtrack and it was much better than the 5.1 sound which was quite uneven and badly moxed. Oh and the picture sucked as well.
Ok -- i'll wait for the PAL disc in Germany then
ha ha! back to begining, crooks cant get their mega million bucks earner, a right standard dvd, aur hum chahte haen bluray
I saw the 2-disc Om Shanti Om in a store and couldn't resist the temptation.
And you know what!!!
The 5.1 on the movie disc is simply fabulous!! yes, even during songs - it's really good!!! .
Were you guys watching the single disc edition? So is that authored differently?
Or maybe the Indian Eros is authored differently from the US/UK Eros? Just like Cheeni Kum>?
Or maybe a particular batch has the 5.1 problems?
But the Indian disc does have its problems -- it's by Jet Speed Mumbai, and like a lot of their work, it gets stuck/freezes NewDeep wrote:

Mine is the two disc - and as the film progresses the sound gets worse. During the beginning it is good but towards the end ... not so good.
Ok -- I'll chk for the same on my 2-disc after I get it exchange (current disc getting stuck).
Is yours also manufactured by jet speed?

you and i have TWO different discs...i know for a FACT that the EROS US release has TERRIBLE DD5.1 sound. The 2-channel audio sounds SO MUCH MORE FANTASTIC...
quite possible.
can you check if your disc is also by jet speed?
findings so far
==============
indian eros has good 5.1 sound but has major "freezing" problems, especially just after the layer change. my discs don't even play the first half correctly and I've returned them -- but the 5.1 was very theatre-like...
UK/US eros seems to have terrible 5.1, and thus appears to be a different disc compared to indian eros... to be confirmed...
another thing, on the director's commentary track, you'll notice the difference in pitch: it's like what you'd hear on a PAL-sped-up track.

I do not see Jet Speed anywhere
My d.c. track sounds fine...
on your dvd case, just check the backside for the name of the dvd manufacturer. it could be jet speed mumbai or it could be krcd mumbai. what does it say on your backcover? marketed by eros, but manufactored/authored by...?
the d.c track is fine in itself -- however, just hear it when the movie starts -- and switch back and forth between the d.c. and dolby (5.1 or 2.0) -- you'll hear a difference in the pitch of the soundtrack in the movie (when Farah Khan is not speaking that is
)

The 5.1 sound on the UK release (which is the version I have) seems fine to me. Its good and constantly active, escpailly during the main tracks "Dard-E-Disco" and "Om Shanti Om".
I have no issue with sound. Only the picture quality sucks. Too much compression problems.

I have the 2 disc Eros released in India and the movie freezes up at numerous places. I have had it replaced 3 times already and the problem is there in all copies it seems. As for the movie, I must have watched about half an hour of it and all I can say is what a piece of trash. We Indians really need to have our heads examined for there is somethign seriously wrong that such trash goes onto become so successfull

Great news that Eros is going to replace the defective DVDs, and do a new production for the DVDs of Om Shanti Om. (I'm sure it will not cost Eros anything) since Jet Speed Audio per contract will be replacing all DVDs at no cost to Eros.. Eros would only be paying shipping to send out the new DVDs to customers who return the defective DVDs to them.

except for the bloody playback freezing problem (also on the indian eros jetspeed disc of dus kahaniyan), everything is pretty decent on the indian dvd -- pq, 5.1 audio, all fine!
but interesting that people are saying on imdb that the 5.1 is good in the first half of the dvd and then goes for a toss -- i did not get a chance to chk the 5.1 in the second part of the eros indian dvd -- maybe even the indian dvd is bad in the second half -- anyone else owning the indian eros?
for those owning the US/UK eros, is the 5.1 decent in the first half?
on my pack, it says "manufactured by jet speed" in small print on the back under the eros details.
