Sangam definitely had two intermissions back in 1964 when it released. It was one of my first few films and definitely first colored film that I saw. Can't forget that it had two intermissions. Three shows daily (because of film length) instead of 4 that we all were accustomed to.

True -- my middle-aged cousins all remember this.

4 Hrs, 9 min runtime for Mera Naam Joker is on p4.

Another segment, not included in 4 hrs 9 min, is listed/ hinted in this thread:
Quote:
http://www.bollydvd.net/newprdtls.asp?prid=747&langid=0

Disc/Tape 1

1. Aye Bhai Zara Dekh Ke Chalo

2. Jeena Yahan Marna Yahan

3. Jo Main Aisa Jaanti

4. Kehta Hain Joker Saara Zamana

5. Daag Na Lag Jaaye

6. Kal Khel Main Hum Ho Na Ho

7. Jaane Kahan Gaye Woh Din

8. Wish Me Luck As You Have

9. Teetar Ke Do Aage Teetar

10. Sadke Heer Tujhpe Hum Fakir Sadke

I don't remember this song (Jo Main Aisa Jaanti) from 1970 when I saw this film in theatre. This song must be in the orig LP record ?? Does any one remember this song ?? Can anyone find lyrics or audio for this song ??

Although this website lists it, they are selling Shemaroo DVD that definitely doesn't have this song along with another more than an hour that's missing in Shemaroo DVD.
------------------------------------

imdb too lists lyrics/ songs, some of which are not in 4 hrs 9 min identified on p 4:
Quote:
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0066070/soundtrack
"Jeena Yahaan Marna Yahaan Iske Siva Jaana Kahaan"
"Teetar Ke Do Aage Teetar Teetar Ke Do Peechhe Teetar"
"Kehta Hai Joker Saara Zamaana"
"Ae Bhai Zara Dekhe Chalo Aage Hi Nahin Peechhe Bhi"
"Ang Lag Jaa Balma"
"Daag Na Lag Jaaye Hai Kahin Daag Na Lag Jaaye"
"Kaate Na Kate Raina"
"Jaane Kahaan Gaye Woh Din"
"Kaare Kaare Badara Sooni Sooni Ratiyan"
"Kal Khel Mein Ham Ho Na Ho"
"Sadke Heer Tujhpe Ham Fakir Sadake"
"Wish Me Luck As You Wave Me Goodbye"
"Oh Susannah !"

I'll check if "Oh Susannah !" lyrics are in my VHS or in YRF DVD ??
Same for "Kaate Na Kate Raina" which might be in there for a line or two in YRF DVD.

(I checked and as Muz pointed out in the following post, "Kaate Na Kate Raina" song is there, in full, in YRF DVD and "Jo Main Aisa Jaanti" is the starting lyrics for this song.

"Oh Susannah !" lyrics are in there in the Part 1, (it's the classic tune from the nineteenth century) that tune sure is in M N J part 1. It's 2 min 22 sec in part 1 when School kids and Simi are coming back from holidays by train, and Rishi Kapoor receives them.

"Wish Me Luck As You Wave Me Goodbye" is 80 sec when school kids and Simi are going on vaccations. Another 115 sec is after Simi Manoj wedding.

Sidelight: Piya Tose Naina Laage Re from Guide is amongst my all-time favourite songs -- but on the audio tape (and CD too?) this is a very short version with lyrics only of the Holi segment (other segments, present in the song in the movie, are discarded on the audio release). Does anyone know if the full song was ever released on audio, perhaps on LP or maybe on and EP record as a single?

The full version was released on CD by HMV (Sa Re Ga Ma) on their Classic Films series of CDs. Bobby, Satyam Shivam Sundaram etc were also released with improved sound and full versions of the songs.

Jo main aisa jaanti ... this is the intro to the Kaate Na Katai Raina song. This is in the YRF DVD and the LPs / CDs of MNJ. It's my favourite song from the movie ... this is the one where we have two Padmini's on stage - one dancing one seated. I recorded this song on to CD direct from the DVD as the musical intro during Padmini's dance is cut in the LP / CD. It's a great song!!!

Saw a funny post on internet about MNJ. It's only humour, don't take it seriously:

Mungda Originally Meant for Mera Naam Joker

Very few people know that the famous song "Mungda" was actually written for Raj Kapoor's Mera Naam Joker. It was not included in the film because that would have meant the producers would have to add a 3rd intermission in the movie, on top of the 2 existing ones.

The song was actually supposed to be sung by the Russian girl from the circus to Raju.

How do I know this? Because the song's second line is "Mangta hai to aaja Russia naahi to main yeh chali"

(BTW "Rusia" means loverboy).

I found out that there were two (or three) songs recorded by the singer Sharda for Mera Naam Joker that were dropped from the soundtrack. I managed to find a clip of one on-line:

http://www.mp3.com/media_player/viewer. ... d=&ont_id=

Not sure why they were dropped - according to Sharda's website (titliudi.com) she also does not know why they were dropped.

Wow! That's a high octane song. Perhaps this song alone would have made MNJ a Hit ??

Let me speculate, where this song might have been in the film ??
Singing style doesn't suit Simmi (part 1). May be in part 2, for the Russian actress, but not likely. Singing style doesn't suit Padmini (part 3) either, even though there are plenty of situations where this song fits the storyline. May be it was recorded for Mumtaz who was replaced by Padmini ??

If Sharda's new albums are anywhere close to this song, I'll be interested in getting them.

Added Comment May, 2011:
Found Complete song at Youtube (Sharda:Alibaba, Mukesh-Sharda-Simmi: Gaao Gaao, and one more mentioned)
http://www.youtube.com/results?search_q ... ished&aq=f
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X9pGJr_85k8

Youtube Alibaba song is perhaps still trial versions. Close to the MP-3 version. Obviously, Youtube version doesn't have the same Hi-Fi as MP-3.

It's interesting - I actually e-mailed Sharda and she replied to me which is how I found out about the song (and it's location on the internet!) I didn't ask about why they were dropped from the movie but reading up on various sites it seems that she does not know either.

I will find out if any other of the songs that she recorded for MNJ exist somewhere.

I was thinking that the song may have worked for part 3 as it sounds like it could be one of the 'naataks' that were in the sequence where they had Heer Ranjha etc. But you are correct it wouldn't work for Padmini. I always thought that Sharda's voice suited the younger actresses (Mumtaz, Rajshree etc.) Anyhow - it was a short clip and I hope to get the whole song someday!

Hi All

I had this movie in my collection and with the exception of watching the 'Kaate Na Kate Raina Song', i never really watched the complete movie. After reading this thread i felt i had to do justice (I have the YRF DVD). Upscaled on my PS3 it was actually not too bad. I thouroughly enjoyed Mera Naam Joker. However cliched in the second and third Parts, i was touched and truly now know why Raj Kapoor is known as THE showman. Even the songs appealed to me after viewing. These stalwarts Raj Kapoor, Shankar Jaikishan and many others are irreplaceable. Modernisation in bollywood has extremely tarnished the quality of movies. Right up to the 90's we had actresses who had power in their talent. i.e. Madhuri Dixit, Sri Devi, Juhi Chawla etc but now there is no actress only the show off. MNJ showed just this. My favourite was Padmini (bias for the classical music in her segments), that scene when she dances to to the classical piece is awesome!! Rana, excellent work, I enjoyed reading every word of your dissection!! Raj Kapoor handled nudity in his movies in a very mature way. i admire that.

It'll be interesting to hear those three songs and it can be made possible. From Sharda's website, titliudi.com, it's obvious how humble she is and she does concerts on all scales, solo/ mini house party to large shows with full orchestra. Obviously we have music leads for one song and perhaps she may remember music notes, lyrics or lead lines from the other two songs as well. Whatever, re-creating those songs or clips in a concert and making a video should be do-able. It does not have to be exact same original Shankar Jaikishan music, any similar or may be even modified/ better music, with Sharda's voice will be excellent.
-------------------------------

zoran009, I can think of two main reasons that these songs were not in the final cut of the film.

1) Most likely these were recorded for Mumtaz for part three. As Raj Kapoor suspected and was angry at Mumtaz (suspected of affair with his son Randhir Kapoor) and he replaced Mumtaz with Padmini. And this singing style didn't suit Padmini.

or

2) Cut throat conflicts between Shankar, Jaikishan, Lata and Sharda. Jaikishan favouring Sharda and Shankar not in favour of annoying Lata.
