Twenty years ago, he was the man! What went wrong? I don't know but I can say alot of great actors from that generation from all over the world, don't give such good performaces nowadays as they once did (e.g. Al Pacino and Robert DeNiro).
AB was good in Nishabd but I think he gave a better performance in Eklavya, which I think was his best recent performance.

Of course, Mr_Khiladi, to each his own. Amitabh Bachchan, I feel, is every bit as amazing as he was during the 1970s, '80s, and '90s. Pacino is still great, but he hasn't really done anything in years that blew me away.

No. Do I have to? He's certainly been in mediocre and bad films, and he's definitely given performances that didn't blow me away. I'm sorry if you're trying to get an attack out of me, but I generally find that a mediocre job by Amitabh Bachchan is to be blamed on the script and/or on the director. A criticism I can give you is, Amitabh Bachchan, having read the piece, should not have accepted Ab Tumhare Hawale Watan Saathiyo; Amitabh Bachchan, knowing what it was, ought not to have agreed to work in Hum Kaun Hai?; and Amitabh Bachchan, no longer in great need of money, shouldn't sign on to myriad endorsement projects. If you want an "Amitabh sucked in...," though, I'm sorry: you're not getting one.

No, you don't have to think he was bad in any film. I'm not trying to coerce a negative comment about Bachchan out of you, I was merely trying to compare your views about him to mine. Trust me, I have better things to do than try and get an 'attack' out of you (although the amount of time I spend on Zulm would indicate otherwise!).

The reason I asked was that I was, until recently, a Bachchan fan. However, some of his recent projects, in my opinion, have been embarrassing, and his performance even more so. I was interested to see whether you had a similar opinion to me on at least some of the films. As I mentioned, I was not angling for any particular quote; someone telling me that they think Bachchan 'sucked' in one film, and was phenomenal in another makes very, very little difference to me.

That's exactly how I feel. If he hadn't given these embarrassing performances then maybe we'd still think he's great, but he's given quite a few disappointing performances that I had to change my mind about him. He once was great, but now he's lost it. He seems to be taking lessons from the Shahrukh Khan school for over-acting.

sorry to hijack ur thread guys... but the worst, the absolute worst performance i have ever seen from Bachchan is his last theatrically released film - RGV KI AAG

i'm sorry to say ab should be forcefully retired from acting in such a horrendous film and then topping it off with an annoying, obnoxious, retarded portrayal of one of our most beloved villains.

That said, I've seen The Last Lear (with Bachchan in attendance) at Tiff and the film was a masterpiece. Definately not mainstream and it probably has the best performance from AB since Khakee.

Basically Bachchan is really a director's actor who is (90% of the time) signing anything that comes his way.

Here's hoping next year is better than this one...

I haven't yet seen The Last Lear, but I thought Amitabh was amazing in Nishabd and Eklavya; great in Cheeni Kum and Ram Gopal Varma Ki Aag (the latter was a bad movie, but Bachchan was well-suited to his over-the-top role). Of course, to each his or her own.

Has anyone been able to sit and watched The Last Lear all the way through without falling into a coma? I lasted 20 mins before I fell asleep. Found it incredibly boring and was wondering if its worth pursing all the way through? I used to be able to sit through these types of films once upon a time

Unfortunately, I've never heard of this film's release: No theaters, no DVDs, nothing. I watched a fair amount of it on-line, though, and, despite the poor technical quality of the presentation, rather enjoyed it — certainly, it didn't put me to sleep.

LOL....back on Zulm after a rather longish sabbatical....i think it has been 2 years at least if not more....anyways....this movie HAS to be one of the most pretentious ever....c'mon, any journalist worth his salt would know the difference between Oberon and Oberoi!!!! Such poor and lame writing i have not seen in a long time and least expected it from Rituparno Ghosh. having said that I have hope his next will be better. UTSAB was too good to be true and CHOKER BALI was not half-bad.
