I started out this thread in 2007 trying to compile a list of Indian Film Personalities who are active for 40 Yrs and more. Compiled quite a list. Revisiting this thread in 2020, noticed some famous names missing and while adding those names, started adding those names as well those are not active now or have passed away. Doing this, created quite a mess, as in this 'more than 40 Yrs' category, there are lots and lots of names and it'll be difficult to recall/ compile those names. It'll take quite an effort.
Anyway, now this is getting quite a big list and not all names that should be here, may get in.
Hopefully someday, someone could separate and organize these names in a different thread.

Let's list Indian Film personalities that have been in film business for more than 40 Yrs and are still active in business.
Started out this thread as '40 Yrs and still active in films'. But, now (2020) changed to 'Are/Were Active for > 40 Yrs'.
Quote:
Added in 2020: With so many names put together in this thread, we must not forget Dada Saheb Phalke who made the first Indian Film and is the Father Of Indian Cinema. (Born 1870, Died 1944, made films 1911 - 1937)

Started this thread in 2007. We'll try to keep adding more names as we recall names and as time goes by and more names make it to '40 Yrs List.

Manna Dey since 1948

I think the two have long retired, but are still living.

Has he been acting continuously since then? I know he's been in some films as a kid.

Pran died a while ago. Dilip Kumar hasn't been "active" in the industry in well over a decade; ditto for Manna Dey; ditto for Shashi Kapoor. I don't remember having seen A.K. Hangal in some time; ditto for Jeetendra (though, with the latter, I just might not have been looking).

Johnny Walker died a while ago.

Shammi Kapoor still shows up now and then, so there's one to add.

How can you confirm this news? I've been researching for quite a bit on his current status and all online sources don't indicate a death date of his.

Dilip Kumar:
lately
non-active: Films
active in some functions though.

Manna Dey:
non active in new films singing
active in concerts (Hindi songs)

A K Hangal:
I don't see him active in films or news recently.

Shashi Kapoor:
imdb has 1998 as last entry. I think he has appeared or is/ was active in films until recently ??

Randhir Kapoor:
I count him as active in films as he is the boss of RK Films and Studios, still active.

---------------

BTW, what would you say about including Ameen Sayani (Binaca Geetmala host) ?? He may not be an actor, but sure is/ was more famous, due to Film Business, than many big stars.

I'm sure Pran is alive and well. Can't imagine, Pran getting sick and we never heard it, in the days of internet. Not only the news, even Google search and other search engines show no such thing.

Wishing long life to our Pran.

Rana, I, too, very much like Pran, and would wish him good health, myself... if I thought he were alive. I doubt I still have the newspaper in which I read the story if his passing, and I don't want to go on and on about how "he is gone, damn it" when I don't possess the proof to back it up, but — unless I misread (and, just to be fair, I suppose it's possible that I did) — I'm pretty sure Pran died a a while ago (definitely after 2000). That said, I also can't find any news of this on-line...
