Well I'm for one is sticking to this format. I have got thousands of dollars wasted on it already. How can we be assured that we are not gonna get the same pains, after all this is still in the infancy stage. I don't know, but perhaps " time bomb media " is in store for us? besides I have yet to see this format really excelled over a good encoded DVD!

if it is for indian films only, less said, less spent is better

Nope! It's not limited to Indian DVDs only!. I've got a ton of Chinese, Japanese and yes Hollywood ones too. So until I can see a clear cut advantage I'll................... brownboy, I think I'm begining to see your point, and just in case, I do have Mitsu 50in. Imagine how much I enjoy viewing some of the above mentioned DVDs!

Get a 1080p projector and project LARGE. (2-3m or more). Then you see what HD can do.

Am... cheaper to stick with what I got and go to the movies for that effect!

iam sure it can do wonders. But my house is not Yash Raj film Studios.
what do i get next? seats, popcorn machine, AC?

Personally, I agree with Brownboy05. People sometimes rave about what HD-DVD and Blu-Ray can deliver, but, honestly, a hundred-thousand lines of resolution and sound pouring distinctly out of three billion perfectly-placed speakers, will not make Gigli a good movie. Yes, good picture and sound help make a film more enjoyable, but I think there is such a thing as "over-kill." I guess the only problem is, "over-kill" tends to be whatever you, yourself, don't have... .

I have a projector HD ready and am dddddddddying to recieve my PS3
(comes out in a week in the UK, but I'm abroad for a week so wont get to use it for 2 weeks!).

As for going to the cinema Vs staying at home watching a movie on a home projector wins every time......the movie starts and stops when i want, I don't have to drive there, find parking, book a ticket, stand in line, I can pause it and go to the bathroom, I don't have to sit next to fat/smelly people crunching their popcorn as loud as they can, no wise guy talks/coughs/farts/shouts out during the movie, I'm not crambed into a small seat with no leg room for 3 hours..... I could go on!

It's all about priorities. A car costs usually more. A big wedding too.
You decide. Not everybody is a film buff... But for some 1000$ you can participate.

let me explain. If i had the money & space i would invest in all these and have a movie lounge/room. But my point is most people dont, and still buy a huge 50" TV/projector where the seating is only 2m away, just to be one of the first.

Also i think having so much control over a movie (pause, rewind, phone ringing, someone at the door) just takes away the enjoyment even more.
Big movies are meant for an audience, and to be seen in a stretch. But i know there are exceptions.

In 2007, i think its still a waste. Best to wait.

I will stick to the old format for DVDs now as I said earlier in a similar post till a dual DVD player is out for $299 or less.

I might rent the HD DVD of Devdas since my brother has an Xbox device, and should he buy the add on HD drive for it I'll take his Xbox system, and connect in my HD TV to watch it.

So will Devdas be the first HD DVD for Eros, and if so which HD format?

what do you guys think will VMD win the format battle for Indian HD?
Last year lots of stories were on the net/press about them signing up 6 big companies to release for. Then I read in November that lots of new releases promised for early this year, but so far nothing is out. Even the VMD official website has no contect for sale, just players.
