I had seen this Ultimate Edition (Vol 1, 2, 3, 4), with claims of extensive re-mastering, on the store shelves, last month, but thought of re-mastering claim as just a sales gimmick. How could they provide modern audio (surround/ DD/ DTS etc) to mono audio of JB early releases.
Jan 2007 issue of Widescreenreview has reviewed Vol 1 of this set. Remember, WSReview always gave very poor grades to older JB films on DVD. For Audio, as well as, for Video. But, the new remastered edition gets really high marks from them. Improvements, from previous versions, are marginal on newer Bond films (because newer films already got good DVDs) but on the older Bond films, improvements are phenomenal.

Some excerpts:
The remastering was a huge undertaking, spanning over a two-and-a-half year period by DTS and John Lowry.
Over 37 millions of dirt pieces were removed from 42 miles of film, using the comparative frame-by-frame digital restoration techniques.
Audio soundtracks all received the same regal treatment, remixed & re-equalized. (Remastering to present day multichannel DD/ DTS audio; and plenty of bass; improvements in audio fidelity; imroved dynamic range)
Lots of Extras (Each film has a separate extras disc) including many multi-angle shots, deleted scenes etc.
Before X-mas I saw these sets priced at $ 75, and now at under $ 50.

Only negative: Is it worth buying this set if you already have earlier released set. Specially, when HD-DVD/ Blue Ray format is already here ??
