Will Eros release Devdas on DVD? Doesn't Bharat Shah have some sort of relationship with them?

Yep it's looking like Eros is the distributor of this. I think Naz mentioned it on the music thread too, plus all the teasers and promos on B4U have "Releasing Soon..." and underneath "www.erosentertainment.com" :(

Oh man. Here we go again... Hopefully SLB will oversee the home video/DVD production.

Guys take it from me, Devdas being an Eros release is a blessing in disguise. Well compared to the alternative (Video Sound who did HDDCS) it surely is, atleast we can expect a half decent DVD with proper 5.1 sound unlike the absolute crap that Video Sound keeps putting out. I know Eros is certainly not the best choice and they certainly don't make the best Indian DVDs, but even then atleast most of their recent DVDs have had Anamorphic video and real 5.1 sound. Also Eros DVDs (due to the media used) atleast last beyond the 3 - 4 times Video Sound DVDs work and then quit playing. Ofcourse it would be great if Columbia or even DEI were to make the DVD but since we all knew that was not going to happen, I am glad it's Eros and not Video Sound that is doing the DVD. Just wish Aankhen was also an Eros release and not Video Sound.
By the way the funny thing is, just about an yr ago if I had made a choice I would have chosen Video Sound over Eros. But the fact is that Eros has somewhat improved lately while Video Sound has completely gone to the dogs.

There always doubt with any of the muppets in charge of Indian movies. I remember the case with Ek Rishtaa - advertised on Eros site until a few days before the release when it jumped shipped to a DEI DVD.

All know is what I said before about the teaser pointing to Eros website, it usually means that it’s their picture to distribute – but could/hoping to be wrong. Also the sad fact remains that Eros remains the biggest distributor of Indian movies abroad. Actually I would second what Sanjay said – if it was between Video Sound and Eros – I would pick Eros too to-do the DVD

At the IIFA Amitabh Bachchan praised Lagaan’s team effort to get the film noticed at an international stage and said this was the way forward for Indian cinema and especially the young directors that are breaking new ground. It’s such a pity that the distribution systems remain the same – geared only towards cinema and very little towards home cinema. I watched promos of Kitne Door Kitne Paas and the director basically had no interest in the video market – he kept on urging people to go watch it in theatres as it’s a film made for the big canvas bla bla bla. Sadly he probably represents the views on most producers and directors who all want their pictures to be seen on theatre to get the full effect (and money).

Ali my question is why doesnt SLB do a AG ..and get it released by an international distributor ? This is a film which might really interest westerners, as its a real tear-jerker. Lets hope SLB gets this message from some corners etc. !

Devdas looks like something special and no doubt it will interest audiences in the west. I'm not really sure why SLB doesn’t go with international distributor he has some clout in the international arena. It was Andrew Lloyd Webber who said he was inspired by HDDCS todo his stage musical Bollywood Dreams with Shekhar Kapur and AR Rahman, so its not like SLB is not know around the world.

Remains to be seen what happens with Devdas.

So I guess a HDDCS style DEI DVD for Devdas is out of the question :-(

Dragun and others...please folks give it a thought...SLB has practically nothing to do with the film; come on Bharat Shah ( the MAFIA) is nothing like Aamir Khan ( who gave AG a free hand in choosing what kinda film he wanted to present to the western media).

BS and the Lullas are jigri Dosts, but if BS is clever he would think twice as DEVDAS is really a CASH COW !!!

Maybe we should all write to Columbia Tristar to release a Devdas dvd like they are doing for Mission Kashmir. But I think there might still be a possibility that DEi makes it.

Yup... but there's a possibility that DEi might make it a Fiza part 2 unless it goes to Eros.
