Recall 60s B/W film Sharabi starring Dev Annand and Madhu Bala. It had top lead stars and haunting Mohammad Rafi songs. Saawan Ke Mahine Mein and Kabhi Na Kabhi that don't even need any musical instruments to make them musical.

I got Shemaroo version of this DVD. After its initial release (perhaps flop) it had not been in demand for any reruns. Shemaroo must have sourced their DVD from whatever was available. Badly worn out print that even CC is barely visible. After the CC, beginning credits (lead actors) are missing but are on DVD on a blank White screen in bold B/W letters. DVD run time is 1 hr 57 min. Orig film must have been 140 min or more. Luckily, the songs seem to be complete.

Hit or flop, this film sure is a classical for its top stars and haunting music. It sure deserves to be restored.

ha-ha, u always know very little about bollywood commando, and yet claim to be a fan.
u probably dont know there's another Sholay before 1975, and a Roop ki Rani Choron Ka Raja with Dev Anand aswell. Dev Anand Also has a film called Insaniyat with Dilip Kumar! (i know you'd like to know this one)
Even Amitabh himself has 2 'Deewaar's! LOL

Were there really 13 songs ?? Sharabi was the 1st LP that we (my brother) bought, and there weren't that many songs in it.

Shemaroo DVD has the following:
(Ones that I remembered are in bold)

1) Saawan Ke Mahine Mein (Slow) 2 min
2) Jaoji Jao Dekhi Hai 3 min 30 sec
3) Tum Ho Hasin 3 min 30 sec (Haai Haai Ghuroor Itna, Haan Haan Huzoor, Itna)
4) Mujhe Le Chalo 6 min 20 sec
5) Saawan Ke Mahine Mein (ii) 4 min 30 sec
6) Kabhi Na Kabhi 3 min 30 sec
7) Do Do Haath, Do Do Paaon 4 min 20 sec

Excuse me, Brownboy? Why don't you eat me? When have I ever claimed to be a "Bollywood fan"? I come here to talk about movies, charing what I know, and learning what I don't. I've never seen a pre-1975 Sholay; what of it? I did know of Dev Anand's Roop Ki Rani Choron Ka Raja; am I suddenly redeemed? I've heard of the old Insaniyat, as well; WOW: two in a row — I must be a "Bollywood fan" now! Of course, you must know that I'm aware of (and have seen) both of Amitabh's Deewaars...but, again, so what? A lot of people — maybe not you, but a lot — like movies without having seen them all. Shocking! Don't tell me what I "claim to be," then accuse me of not being it.

*Sorry if I'm lashing back and you didn't even attack me, but, from how it reads, it does so as an attack. If it was all in good fun, then, again, sorry I got it wrong.

JB, DVD songs listing and ultraindia song listing checks out OK except for the first 5 songs in ultraindia listing. Theymust be from some other film but in the same CD.

Yeah, sorry, BrownBoy. I'm glad I wrote the last past about the possiblity of my being mistaken. Not to excuse, but to briefly explain, why I was readily pissed off, I'd just gotten some shitty news via e-mail. I came to Zulm to get my mind off my anger, and I read something that had the potential to only fuel it further; I guess I was just waiting for a fight. Anyway, whatever — :D 8) .

Hi Rana,

Can you post screenshots of Sharabi (Dev Anand, Madhubala)?

Some interesting notes about this film. It was made during Madhubala's illness and one of her last released films. Some scenes reportedly used a body double to compensate for her missing the shooting schedule.

I'll pass on the disc either to urbanlegend or Arsh for the screen shots. By the time I learn and get used to posting SS, it'll be ages.

I don't think, this film was affected by Madhubala's illness. Even if it was, it was minor and I don't think they needed to use body double. It was JWALA (Sunil Dutt) that was badly affected and they used Preetibala as body double for some scenes.

Her last 3 films:
Half Ticket in 1962, Sharabi in 1964, 1969 when Madshubala died. And in 1971 they completed and released Jwala using body double. When was Madhbala diagnosed with Cancer? Was it right after Mughleazam (1960) or a bit later. Perhaps it was 1964 when her illness was disclosed and she did survive 5 yrs after that, that's good feat for someone with Cancer.

BTW, in Jwala DVD that I got, it's obvious where they used Preetibala. It seems they minimized the role to a bare minimum for the body double.

Yup - that's how it happened ... and acting in MEA aggrevated her condition - but it was heart problems not cancer.
