PS3 has no relationship to movie media. it's a gaming system. not a media center (c) MS Corp. (:P) j/k nobody that bought a PS2 bought it cause they sought the DVD Playback. they bought it to play games. personal computer compatibility is way more important for the end user than a stupid gaming system that will never mount up to matching a computer gaming system anyway. are they going to release Blu Ray drives for computers? (I'm asking out of ignorance)
I think you missed the point. You are right, people will buy the PS3 for it's gaming ability, but that also by default insures that millions of homes will have PS3 systems capable of playing Blu-Ray movies. This gives a huge advantage to Blu-Ray since these millions of households do not have to go out and buy any new hardware to play Blu-Ray movies. Whereas for HD-DVD they would have to buy new players.
Regarding the question, "will they be releasing Blu-Ray drives for computers"? The answer is yes. Dell & HP the two largest manufacturers of PCs are prominent members of the Blu-Ray group. Apple too has recently joined the Blu Ray Association.

The only thing that I hope Blu Ray would support is the ability of the data to be copied to hard drives. I think HD based media centers have a future and I wouldnt want that choice to be taken away from consumers. The Blu Ray format is silent about this. I think HP one of the supporters of Blu Ray has asked for this feature (managed copy) to be included in Blu Ray
Many people think that the main reason that Microsoft opposes Blu Ray is because XBox 360 does not support Blu Ray, while PS3 does and this may give a big advantage to PS3 in the gameing console market as many people use theit consoles as DVD players as well
And when Apple chooses Blu Ray over HDDVD you can almost be sure that Blu Ray is indeed the superior technology
You are right, the one problem HP has expressed is the ability, or rather the inability of the data to be copied to hard drives with Blu Ray. Actually it is not really a problem with the techonology but rather a choice that the Blu Ray group has made, which probably will be changed due to the pressure from HP. By the way this is the same issue that Microsoft has chosen to misrepresent the facts about Blu Ray.
PS: By the way just incase some of you don't know this, but Blu Ray has been selling in Japan for over a year now and it is not just vaporware.
