Words cannot express my feelings at this time. First it was disbelief, then depression, now anger.
What the hell, I wasted over 3 hours watching this mindless show, filled with stupid speeches, and bad jokes by Whoopi in anticipation of this. And what did they do? They made the foreign go by so quickly, that there was no suspense given off. Travolta just said it so quietly, so disappointingly.

Hell, they showed real movie clips for all the other nominees; for Lagaan, they showed part of a song. No insight whatsoever. In fact, the entire show had as little publicity for Lagaan and Aamir. I never saw him once. In fact, I saw more of Rachel Shelley, and the announcers making antagonizing comments about Bollywood.

Basically, the fact that Lagaan didn't win, in addition to the other facts, shows a complete lack of understanding on the academy's part.

Cant agree better with you man.

I am kinda pissed with the show too.

Aamir can only do this much and yet if the show runners cant even show his face while announcing the winner... or show some better clip of the movie while announing the nominees... I think the whole effort has gone waste.

Rahul Bose made an comment last night sayin that we shouldnt be creatin sucha big hype about this anyway... Hollywood would never accept Bollywood. We should just concentrate on makin good movies for ppl who really understand bollywood.

anyway.. it sucked. :(

Has anyone got an email contact for the Oscars?

We can send our views just to make a point.

As I said before it a politically correct decision, just like the BAFTA they did not time out to see Lagaan and see what the film was really about.

Anyway I am Proud to be an Indian and proud to say Lagaan IMO was far better and entertaining than all the other Foriegn films, and just to support it I went to see it on Saturday - it was great.

Well done Aamir and all those who worked hard on this project.

Why do so many desis need recognition from white folks? Lagaan was made for the Indian audience with Indian ethics and Indian sensibilities in mind.
If you watched it and liked it, that's the end of the story.
It also showed the British as the villians. That alone was enough to assure that it did not get the award.
You don't see Americans getting pissed off that their films did not get a filmfare award(Not that there is best foreign film category). So shut up and enjoy hindi films.

I'm with you, Technogeek. It would have been great if Lagaan won the Oscar, but the fact that it didn't doesn't diminish the film. It is still a very good film. Just enjoy it and stop thinking about any awards it has won or lost.

Racist, you think? Ironic, since the entire awards ceremony, instead of focusing on films, was devoted to the sole cause of proving they weren't racist! And in the end, they didn't prove anything at all -- because they tried so hard they made us wonder what they were trying to hide! No, actually, one thing was proved: that Whoopi Goldberg's only joke is to point out, again and again and again, that she's black! Imagine anyone of any other race continually pointing out the color of their skin. It was ludicrous.

Anyway, it got the lowest Nielsen ratings of any Oscar ever, and I'm so glad about that. Hollywood is so sanctimonious and fake. If those actors think they represent Americans, they can kiss my American ***.

I think we shouldn't get so worked up over the Oscars. Firstly, we can't expect western audiences to seriously understand Indian cinema as yet. Second, there can only be one winner - and they were all good films-better than some Hollywood films in the other categories. It would've been great if it'd won - but you know, it doesn't matter that it didn't. After all, I've seen Amelie and it is a great film too - and it didn't win either.
