never heard of this film. has it been decided that it's a remake? either way, looks like a film that I'd like to see, especially after one was glued to the screen for a probably poor vhs print

I recently saw DrohKaal on EROS S-DVD ( a.k.a Shit DVD) ..., i have been having this film on DVD for over a year now and never mustered enough interest to see it, after reading this comment by our beloved Mola Ram i thought i should give this disk a spin.

The film is brilliant, def. an edge of the seat thriller, its very raw and very edgy . Having not seen Kurudhipunal ( Kamal's remake) in a while i cant comment on which is "better" but for now i feel Nihalani's creation is miles ahead for various reason ( perhaps one day i can pen-it-down when i see it again), the whole movie feels like a chess game with different "pieces" of the game constantly moving , aligning , castling .., the camera supplements this - it pretty much always tracks ..., there is hardly any "still" work and anytime the camera halts , it is really to “look” back at all this movement(s).., some of the jungle scenes remind you of kurosawa's rashmon ( the use of lighting and shadows to create mood) . Casting was excellent , everyone did their part and Om Puri excelled in his role - a fantastic "actor" . also the end left me much more satisfied than its tamil counterpart. As for if its a remake - i am not 100 % sure , from what i remember i thought Drohkaal was based on a marathi/guju play - anyone confirm or refute this ?? - either ways i thoroughly enjoyed this one

Here are the snapshot from a dismal DVD - EROS is prob a contender for the worlds worst DVD production company ! , i had to shut off all light to even see some scenes ( the movie has lot of "dark" scenes )

I watched on vhs long time ago, that now seemed better, and believe me, I did not take my eyes off the screen for a moment!
thats how a thriller should be. 8)

Along with it being an excellent thriller , its also a very good soul-gazing experience ..., you really go into the psyche of Om Puri's character (something that didn’t happen with the Tamil remake at least not to this level ..), every time he pauses to “think” - you “ponder”, every time he "decides" you “concur” - very rarely do we see such depth in Indian film(s) .

As much as i hate the DVD , i love the movie and glad i snagged a copy. :nopity:
