Even as 10, Janpath remains silent on the movie, London-based director Jagmohan Mundra is billing it as the untold story of Sonia Gandhi her metamorphosis from an ordinary Italian girl into one of the world's most powerful political leaders. As for the Big Q, Italian Hollywood actress Monica Bellucci is tipped to play Sonia. "The portrait of Sonia won't be political in nature. The film will highlight her personal side, how Sonia falls in love with Rajiv, his family, his country and his people. And, after his death, how she takes on his responsibilities, his roles. The movie won't show her as being stiff, but we won't put her on a pedestal either," says Mundra, who has bought the rights of Rasheed Kidwai's book Sonia for his movie.

That brings us to Bellucci. Has she said 'yes'? " I've sent a proposal to Monica and it seems she's interested. I'm waiting for the script to be finalised before I show it to her.

Yes, Monica doesn't look like Sonia but we can use props to give her the look," says Mundra.Should Monica say 'no', Nagma is interested. However, Mundra denies offering the role to her "there'll be something else for her in the film but I don't see Nagma as Sonia." According to Kidwai, "Sonia is a very private person; yet, she is enigmatic. I wrote this book in 2003, when Sonia's political rating was low, but I knew she would turn around the Congress's political future. She is an ordinary person with extraordinary qualities."

While Kidwai's book forms the "base" of the movie and uses anecdotes from it, Mundra is focussing on the love in Sonia's life.

Sonia never aspired for a career in politics; she just wanted domestic bliss. What will come out through the film is the three deaths in Sonia's family, her challenges and triumphs. It's the Indira part that might be Mundra's greatest challenge. "We'll show what Sonia went through after marriage the saas-bahu part, and the Maneka Gandhi angle. There's a scene in which Sonia develops cold feet when she has to meet Indira at Cambridge it's their first meeting. Indira speaks to Sonia in French and seals the bond. The film ends in 2004, with Sonia turning down the chance to be PM.

I don’t think this will happen - but still will be interesting if it does , esp. if its going to feature Monica Bellucci - cant wait to see this NAKED Sonia . She is a fine actress and in addition has a stellar body/face that she seems to have no problems showing (all the director has do is ask) - now that’s my kind-of-girl

I guess to each his own .

I like her, very rare to see Talent + Beauty in one place . Just watch Irreversible , L' Appartement , Malena or Passion of Chirst to get a 'feel' of her. I know she is about 40 now but i would take her over say Jessica Simpsons anytime of the day/year !

she is 40+. she looks like she's old enough to be izzy's grandma. she can babysit him while he watches Pokemon

I watched Passion. Did not like the film. Did not like Belluci either, probably due to the film. Is Madhuri Dixit Nene in her 40's? Cause she looks good even till this day! & ever-green sri devi ;)

I don't care for Jessica Simpson, but I'd take her over Belluci any day :P yes yes, to each his own. I think Jessica Alba looks good though, and Christina Aguilera before her implants & gothish look. That girl from Smallville (nice show too) Kristin Kreuk. Most of our desi celebs & local gals are better lookin than any of these gals IMHO :!:

Preity Zinta to play Sonia Gandhi?

By IndiaFM News Bureau, September 1, 2005 - 07:00 IST
The latest reports doing the rounds are that Preity Zinta is to play Sonia Gandhi in Jagmohan Mundra’s latest venture Sonia. However, nothing has been confirmed. Giving Preity competition for this role is popular Italian actress, Monica Bellucci, who is also a possible contender.

Mundra says that he intends to cover the phase in Sonia Gandhi’s life from 1964-65 to 2005. This movie is base on journalist Rasheed Kidwai’s best selling book Sonia – A Biography. A Britain based company, CEE, has acquired the rights for the film.

Jagmohan Mundra is known for his women-centric themes. He has just directed Aishwarya Rai in Provoked. Extremely excited about the project, he considers Sonia to be a multi-faceted, remarkable woman and this movie will be a tribute to her.
