Just got this by e-mail for those of you who are interested:

Lakshmi Kataksham is the first movie in the Forever Classics series that iDream Entertainment brings to Telugu movie lovers and DVD Collectors worldwide. The result of intensive restorative effort, iDream Entertainment is proud to present this classic from its original source. This time consuming effort marks the first Telugu DVD which is authored in Progressive 24 frames per second format, resulting in the highest and sharpest picture possible, even on the largest of High Definition Televisions (HDTV).

This movie is remembered as one of the greatest hit movies of NTR, with some of the greatest songs of the black and white era. Vitalacharya directs it as a prime example of his golden days. And with its moving musical score, prepare to be swept away on a wave of nostalgia as you enjoy viewing this with your friends and family.

This DVD also has special DVD features like Jacket Picture, and DVD TEXT which all DVD Jukebox owners would appreciate along with "Play All Songs" menu so you can enjoy songs on your multi-channle music systems. iDreamDVD is the first Indian DVD maker to have Jacket Picture, and DVD TEXT features on it's DVD. iDreamDVD would appreciate any feedback on their DVDs and will work to improve based on customer feedback.

Got the dvd today. But it will not play on PowerDvd4.0 on windows xp. Gives me some error about the tv out port. So I do not have the screenshots.

It plays in my jvc dvd player. But the player does not flag it as progressive. Neither does my friend's panasonic. So I think this is still an interlaced dvd.

Also, before the main menu they have the disclaimer about "vintage source, nostalgic value, possibly compromising on quality, blah blah blah".

So I am assuming no restoration was done.

The print itself is not bad. It is comparable to "Gulebakavali Katha".

So we can add another clueless indian dvd manufacturer to the long list.

If anyone can help me to overcome the tv out problem i can force weave it and see.

If you can, can you do the same test with Kaaka kaaka tamil DVD? Lakshmi kataksham and Kaaka kaaka are authored at the same place using same encoder. I checked for 24fps, using old method decsribed here when you move STEP by STEP using STEP button on remote. It took exactly 24 steps to move 1 second with display timer on.

I will try to check it with other 24fps dvds authored at Prasad and will definetely talk with them and confirm.

Isn't that very easy to say? How about you suggest the steps needed to make them better? I am in constant touch with people at prasad and will try to make things better for us if they have resources. I worked with them to get even little things like Jacket Picture and DVD text added so DVD collectors like us with DVD-changers will love those 'gadget' features.
