Sharmila Tagore back
By Our Correspondent ©2004 Bollyvista.com

After being cast opposite Jaya, Dimple and Hema, Amitabh Bachchan will now be cast opposite yesteryear's Sharmila Tagore. The two had done several films together in the 1970s which did not fare too well. This time Mahesh Manjrekar has decided to bring them back in his Hindi-English bi-lingual 'Virudh', which is about an aging couple coming to terms with the death of their only son (played by John Abraham). With the debacle of 'Saaya', 'Paap' and 'Aetbaar', we wonder if this is a wise choice! Anyway, Manjrekar's best friend, Sanjay Dutt, also has a powerful cameo in the film!

There have been a few movies on the theme of parents coping with the son's death, such as The Son's Room. I hope this film treats the subject in an interesting manner.

The best one yet made by Bollywood on this theme is SAARANSH. Mahesh Bhatt was at his creative best when he penned and directed the movie....I have yet to see a more moving scene than when Anupam Kher walks into the airport commissioner's office to collect something that belongs to him (I will resist from spilling anything out for those who have not seen the movie). It is an amazing scene. Waah Kya scene tha woh !! Brilliant.

I watched SAARANSH on Zee TV last week and I saw "David Dhawan" as the Editor of Saaransh in the titles.

BTW, what's the release date of Virudh, any idea?

David Dhawan incidentally trained as an Editor at FTII and was a gold medal winning student. I think he did a terrific job editing SAARANSH!

Yes, In the Bedroom was nominated for Pic/Actor/Actress/SupActress/Adapted Screenplay in 2002 (for 2001 films). It was my favorite film of that year (along with The Others).

Mere khayal se Arsh bhai bura maan gaye...............

I was simply joking around - I never meant to imply that you have to take my holy blessings! Everyone has different tastes - as I said I was just joking around cos recently you've commented that you didn't think much of a lot of films, you didn't think Sarkar was gonna be any good, you didn't think Virrudh was gonna be too good............lekin aap to ghalat matlab nikaal rahe the.

And I dont 'like and insist on patronising all junk like every UK desi' as you put it - I've disliked most Yash Raj/Karan Johar films, including Kal Ho Na Ho, and Veer Zaara.

But you are right on one thing - maybe I shouldn't bother reading any of the posts on Zulm anymore - I'll just look at the pictures instead :P

It is kool yaar!! it is not what it looks like!! I just kinda worded my position a bit more strongly!! that is about it!!

Well, re Sarkar!! I refuse to give value to same film made over and over again, or same theme, whether RGV, VVC, JOHAR OR CHOPRA company!

I dont care WHETHER Big B churned in a MIND BLOWING performance THIS TIME AROUND!

Lately, I am kinda not looking forward to BIGS any more!

Manjrekar's run had been very poor so that kinda raises my brow re Viruddh..but I still has wishful thinking it to be possibly good film for a change! Even though that I smell another REMAKE with BIG B plastered on the posters!! 8)
