Shakti Samanta did his better films with Rajesh Khanna, ie Aradhana, Kati Patang, Amar Prem, Ajnabi and Mehbooba. With Amitabh it was only Barsaat Ki Ek Raat and The Great Gambler. And The Great Gambler was a flop in relative terms.

Barsaat Ki Ek Raat was released by EVP but it does not seem to be available anymore. I recently saw it advertised on the cover of SKY dvd, so a SKY release may be on the way!

not to forget some great films with Shammi Kapoor - Kashmir Ki Kali, An Evening in Paris, Chinatown !!! All had fabulous songs....especially 'Baar Baar Dekho' from Chinatown...in my opinion C.Ramachandra was the original Rock'n'Roll composer, an art that Pancham sort of perfected in the seventies.....

Indeed, those Shammi Kapoor films directed by Shakti Samanta are truly classics. Any famous C Ramchandra tunes you remember?

I think what was remarkable about Samanta's films for Khanna was the popularisation of the Rajesh Khanna - Kishore Kumar - R D Burman trio. You only have to look at some of the best songs in the period subsequent to Kati Patang and Amar Prem:

O Mere Dil Ke Chain (Mere Jeevan Saathi, 1972)
Zindagi Ke Safar Mein (Aap Ki Kasam, 1974)
Mere Naina Sawan Bhadon (Mehbooba, 1976)
Hamen Tumse Pyar Kitna (Kudrat, 1980)
Hamen Aur Jeene Ki Chahat Na Hoti (Agar Tum Na Hote, 1983)

Eena Meena Deeka, Dai dama neeka - Asha
Bholi soorat dil ke khote, naam badey aur darshan chote - Albela
Mere piya gaye Rangoon, aur kiya hai telefon, tumhaari yaad sataati hai - <dunno the film>
Meri jaan, meri jaan, sunday ke sunday - <film unknown>
All songs from Anarkali
All songs from Azaad (dilip kumar)

C.Ramachandra, poor guy has not gotten his due.....

BTW, back to topic...

I hate the way Shemaroo renders the skin tones... GRAY!!!!

If you see DEi, the skin tone seem better.

Look at the shots from 'Do Lafzon Ki Hai'.
