Those RULES, not apply, same to DIRECT VIEW!! You should be fine!!

34 inch WS WEGA, IMHO, is HARD TO BEAT..AWESOME VALUE!

Go to show room, stand or sit at 10 feet and see ur self! LOL..

Yeah, it's almost definitely the Sony now. I've checked out the 34XBR800 at showrooms, but since they have the TV's in rows, can't see it from 10 ft. I'm waiting for the XBR910 to come out now and make my decision final. If the hype is true, the quality will be unparalleled.

KOOL..If u are not TRUE WS NERD..I would recomend, sony 48 inch, HDTV/RPTV..I have never seen a RPTV, brighter than that..it has 30% bigger picture, or Sony wega 36 inch XBR0Std AR though)

BTW!! Sony 34 inch XBR has advantage of doing 720P direct too, I heard Toshiba WS has Same picture tube, but a bit cheaper and NO 720P direct!

LCD, WGA will be too big for you!!

PLASMA..if considering, still, panasonic/pioneer/pioneer elite, will get my recomendation, but are pricey..

Well, I really would like to get WS TV as that is the future. Otherwise I would've considered the 40" XBR behemoth as well. CRT RPTV doesn't provide great viewing angles which is a necessity for me.

The Sony Direct View unfortunately converts 720p to 1080i. I hear the difference is marginal so I can live with it. Only the DLP's and the high end plasmas(?) do 720p natively.

LCD looks nice, but awful black level and contrast issues.

I would get the higher end Panasonic plasma, but I don't have $6,500 to spare. The $3,000 one doesn't even do 1080i as it downconverts everything to 480i/p. Combine that with the lower resolution, and that's why I don't want to invest in it.

That was my point, re plasma..Did u consider, Samsung DLP?

Yes the main reason I was considering Samsung was because it does offer great quality video that almost rivals Direct View. I am only hesitant because I don't know how long that quality will last because of Samsung's reputation. Some of the key features in the 43" set I am considering are that it does 720p natively and has built in Faroudja DCDi for film-mode processing .

Here are pictures of the set:

And just for reference, here's the new 34XBR910 that will debut soon:

Saw the videos, and it's basically just a dumbed down version of everything I've been reading online. They explain progressive scan, component inputs etc., so it's good if you don't know it.

I'm also starting to consider the 40" XBR since it gives you around a 37" WS. But I feel like I'll be going backwards in technology with a 4:3 and a tube.

I'm sure a 63" Samsung is well out of my budget especially if it's true HDTV and not an EDTV. Nevertheless, if I do invest in a plasma, meaning I have that much money, I would put it in a Panasonic or Pioneer because of previous good experiences. I've just never had anything by Samsung, and wouldn't want the first to be a hefty investment such as a plasma.
