Izzy, do you get OMNI TV in your Vancouver. If you do, check out this schedule of movies to be broadcast in the coming Sundays:

http://www.omnitv.ca/content/en_bollywood_movies.shtml
(All times are Eastern Daylight Saving Time)

May 4 DARR
May 11 1942 A LOVE STORY
May 18 BAAZIGAR
May 25 KHALNAYAK
June 1 AAMDANI ATTHANI KHARCH RUPAIYA
June 8 TERE MERE SAPNE
June 15 YEH DILLAGI
June 22 KRANTIVEER
June 29 HUM DIL DE CHUKE SANAAM
July 6 TAAL
July 13 DILLAGI
July 20 PARDES
July 27 CHORI CHORI CHUPKE CHUPKE
August 3 AJNABEE
August 10 DHADKHAN
August 17 VAASTAV
August 24 HUM AAPKE DIL MEIN RAHTE HAIN
August 31 MR. INDIA

Looks like, they get their movies from EROS/ B4U. For films to be broadcast, they require permission and prints from Film right holders which may or may not be EROS.

I guess what you see on TV is what you'll get in the future DVDs. Many film broadcasts have turned up PAL to NTSC converted, even if Film to NTSC Progressive DVD existed. Quality is consistently going down hill, with a very few exceptions. Exceptions being YRF's Progressive Anamorphic DTPH and KKHH by Super Digital. All new YRF transfers are now done in India and are PAL to NTSC converted interlaced mess.

rana, why did you say that the darr telecast was thru YR - i watched it, and nothing seemed to suggest so...unless you mean by the AR (which i don't have a clue about :) )....?

DEI DARR is Progressive. EROS DARR is Pseudo-progressive. Both are 1.85:1. As either of these two versions are Prog or Pseudo-prog, the NTSC telecast will have every 5th field a repeat of prev one, if the same master was used.

In this telecast, there is no repeat pattern (I recorded a segment on VHS and checked). It's field averaged, most likely resulting from PAL to NTSC transfer. Not surprising, as major market for these telecast masters is in PAL countries.

I assume, this master came from YRF, as telecast rights are with Yashraj, the producer of DARR, himself.

BTW, one of the movies that was broadcast on OMNI-2 in the last 3-4 weeks, had 33% stretched picture. OMNI-2 experts don't know how to telecast from Anamorphic DVDs.

I don't understand what it is that makes you think all films shown on TV are related to a DVD. I don't know what things are like over there, but the films shown here are nothing like the DVDs. Especially the ones shown in British terrestrial channels. Those prints are much better than anything we'll ever get on DVD :p

Yes, you get better telecasts of Indian Films (PAL Countries).

Reasons are obvious. It's straight Film to PAL transfer for PAL countries. Films originating in PAL countries, majority audience in PAL countries and telecast in PAL countries. It'll be foolish to convert Film to NTSC (or NTSC DVD) and then NTSC to PAL. British-Indians are not foolish. Indo-US-Canadians are. Who routinely telecast 'Film to PAL to NTSC' conversions.
