Scheduled for Release on: May 09, 2003

Here comes another andaaz. Dated back to the forty's, the title is one of the many Bollywood titles constantly reused amongst decades past. A revitalized team, of Suneel Darshan as a producer and Raj Kanwar as a director plan to make this Andaaz work. But like the title, the released synopsis on this one makes on thing the story may be as new as the title. Barring Raj Kanwar, Andaaz is a familiar face all around. With the Darshan´s come Nadeem-Shravan´s music, then of course Akshay Kumar. The big news, however, on Andaaz was the introduction of its two heroines, beauty queens with beauty based titles. Lara Dutta and Priyanka Chopra are the mandatory heroines who vie for the love of the hero in Andaaz.

As the promotions indicate, the film is a love triangle with the air force as a backdrop to provide the angle of uniquity. The original couple is Raj (Akshay Kumar) and Kaajal (Lara Dutta). They are the obligatory childhood friends whom are secretly in love but are forced apart due to life´s circumstances. Raj leaves Kaajal to join the air force, which is something Kaajal always wanted him to do. Of course, they do not admit their love or get married but instead they fail to reveal their feelings on each other. Raj arrives in South Africa, and of course, finds Jiya (Priyanka Chopra), falls in love with her and begins to move on. But he still loves Kaajal. Kaajal shows up again and thus sparks the conclusion to the triangle.

If there is one thing one can hope to get from Andaaz, it is some type of dramatic worthwhile entertainment. Thankfully the music has picked up likeably and is worth some attention. Previously, Dharmesh Darshan had previously shown us he could add some jest to a beaten up plot. With the story being no different we can only hope for just that.

Just two things to say here:

1) I think it's ridiculously unprofessional to write a critical review of a film before one has even seen it!

2)

Does he mean "uniqueness" (something single in its kind)
or "iniquity" (gross injustice; wickedness; sin)

So a writer who can't even write properly is slamming the storyline. Next week, a blind man reviews MF Husain's new show. :oo:

A Raj Kanwar film can be safely dumped in the trash bin of mediocre filmmaking. He is going to make the same crap he's been doing all these year albeit with a better technial crew this time.

Bollywood Standard:
Each and every movie is classified as "Super Duper Hit" before it's release. ???

I always find it funny when Raj Kanwar takes credit for writing his "own" scripts. all his movies are remakes, Har Dil Jo Pyar Karega was lifted from While You Were Sleeping. Dhai Askhar...was also a remake of a hollywood flick.

anyway getting back to Andaaz, seeing Akshay with both the beauty queens would have been something to look forward too. but one only has to hope that the director goes one step futher from his last effort rather than one step back.
