It is piracy, and it happens here in the UK as well. AS for the labels and stuff, I guess it depends on the shop. One shop here in Birmingham leaves the cassettes blank, and just puts the initials of the movie title on the cassette in pen, so it's just about visible. Another one gets the labels from Pakistan (names like Shabana Video House on it) and sticks those on. Either way, everyone does it. Looks like piracy rules the Hindi film industry worldwide. :sus:

i'm sure the people who own the rights know that piracy is going on, but i doubt they communicate with these movie stores who do the piracy.

today went to the movie store and it looks like they just got a new shipment of vcrs...i counted twenty. these guys know how to work efficiently.

It's the only efficient way for me to watch Hindi films. A few years ago, they had films playing at cinemas, but then took them out, and now there is a brand new cinema hall, but it's $8.00, and the VHS (copied from DVD) is only $4.00. You can't rent DVD's I think, and they cost $10 to $15.

Whenever I visit England, I go to Birmingham where a lot of family is, and I just go to Star City, instead of getting tapes or DVD's. I do hear though, that DVD's are only 5 quid over there. I hope so!

This film is definitely HOT with the people here in Markham, Toronto. I went to 5 different video stores today to rent the DVD, and each store carried about 4-5 different copies of its DVD and all of its copies were out. Which pissed me off, because I wanted to watch it again, but it shows how popular this film is amongst people here.

this movie is very good the music is great vivek and rani did a great job. shah rukhs guest role was pretty good.
The dvd is average the quality needs to improve
u guys think there will be an alternate version????

I thought the impressive thing about it was that they used sync sound... otherwise, it was a shot-by-shot, edit-by-edit redoing of the original Alai Payuthey. No creativity whatsoeer was injected. ALso, the lyrics of the songs that were "copied over" sound too forced...

on the dvd... Did anyone notice when watching the DVD that it had a sort of PAL look to it. It didn't look like 24fps, but looked like what you would see when transferring PAL to NTSC... it just annoyed me.

You're confusing me...

You can't rent Hindi DVDs and they cost $10-$15? What?

You do realize that you can buy most new movies on dvd for $15-$20. Who in the world would rent them for $10-$15?

And you do also realize that five quid is about $9, so there's no big difference.

Now if you're talking about buying films, then that's a different story... but who in the world would rent a VHS for $4?

yeah that confused me too..... i don't know of any place where they charge $4 for renting vhs... our local store charges $3 CDN for renting dvd for 48 hours and for VHS (i.e dvd copied over to vhs ) they just charge $1 and u can keep the film for a week.....

I think he meant that he can't rent DVD's and buying them costs atleast $10-15.
Or he can buy the VHS for $4, not rent.

Okay... rent a Vhs ( i dont rent ..but i think the price is 1.00 Can $)

rent a DVD ... $2.99 Can... of cos... you need to know the shopwallah really well to get the DVDs... my grocery storewallah gets them mostly on time (and surprisingly they are original :D )

Its Desh Grocery ( Knowing the Bengali lang. really helps !) on Rideau street ! (of cos I havent rented in a while so I dont know the new rates )...

Avoid the other stores there... bunch of crooks ! (with the biggest one being Vaishali's near Bayshore )
