How so? NTSC can very well be interlaced, no?

Besides, it all depends on how truthful the company is being on the packaging. "Digitally remastered" means absolutely nothing to me on most Indian DVDs.

Rana

If they are not lying it implies they used a film element
and the telecine output NTSC which is interlaced by
definition. It does not say anything about progressive.
If the NTSC has a correct 2:3 pulldown the video can be
made progressive on playback. NTSC itself is not a progressive format. The only progressive format is HD 1080/24p or 720p.

Thanks for the clarification, Michel.

From your clarification, I infer that "Remastered from Film using NTSC Telecine" implies "correct 2:3 pulldown and the video can be made progressive on playback". Repeat field flags required, by present Power DVD software, for re-interleaving may or may not be available.

"Digitally re-mastered from the original film" doesnot imply that "correct 2:3 pulldown" is available. 2:3 pulldown may or may not be available. Also, repeat field flags, required by present Power DVD software, for re-interleaving may or may not be available.

"Remastered from Film using NTSC Telecine" implies "correct 2:3 pulldown and the video can be made progressive on playback".
As I said it implies use of a film master and a video master
in NTSC format. They can do with the NTSC what they want.
Usually it means a correct 2:3 pulldown, but they can do
field averaging or a mixture, whatever. It has 60 fields
per second and that is guaranteed. Nothing else.
It is the standard in US though to use a 2:3 pulldown, but
nobody is forced to do so. DVD authoring then can set flags
correctly or not, store it as 24 frames progressively or
60 fields interlaced. As they like.
"Digitally re-mastered from the original film" means
there was a film element used and digital video as well.
If it was all digital from film to DVD, who knows. There
might be analogue steps in between. It does not even
guarantee component format. There is digital composite too.
It says nothing about progressive vs interlaced.
Again the standard would be that it has a correct 2:3
pulldown and is all digital and component, but it does not
have to be.
It means something specific for a some labels who are
known to have standardised procedures (such as Columbia-Tristar), but not in general.

had the same question when i first saw it. single sridevi picture may be from a song of this movie.

same things goes for DEi/Video Sound ... their dvds has pictures posted on the cover from various movies. hopefully BEi will continue this trend of DEi.
