I really don't understand why Shaad Ali decided or allowed his film to open with KAANTE this Friday. I swear, hasn't Bollywood learned its lesson by now? Doesn't anyone remember the debacle of the Bhagat Singh movies? These filmmakers feel that the specific target audience will show up to their respective film, and therefore both can be a success. When asked to back up these claims, they say "Didn't GADAR and LAGAAN open on the same day and go on to be superhits?". While a little competition is fine, the way the industry is need of a hit, I think it's a bit unwise for two such big budget films to be opening together. Common sense points at KAANTE here; what do you think?

I'll see both eventually, but I will be watching Saathiya on Friday.

Saathiya and Kaante are targeted to slightly different demographics. Saathiya will probably appeal to a broad cross section of the audience while Kaante will be geared more towards the males 18-40 audience. You won't be seeing many uncles and aunties at Kaante. Will both be hits? Will one be a hit and the other a flop? Will both flop? We'll have to see. Of course, no matter what happens, Taran Adarsh will declare both flops.

i think saathiya's release date was fixed a long time ago to be december 20th... it is kaante which kept on getting delayed for months and months and now it has clashed with saathiya... either way they are different films .. i think kaante might have a slight edge but its hard to predict...

my vote favours kaante too, if crap like APD can work in India, Kaante will be superior product!

Saathiya, i am iffy, rani mukherjee had not much luck, and southern remakes have been biting dust lately!! :baaa:

If Saathiya is as arty as Alai Payuthey, it might be too arty for some audiences. Not that AP was a Bergman film or anything, but it was unconventional in structure and subject matter. Saathiya and Kaante will do battle and we'll see who comes out winning :fight:

APD was hands-down one of the stupidest, unfunniest, and most blatent rip-offs this year. But that's just my opinion.

I think Kaante should really move. The industry is really depending on these two movies... let them run properly. Sathiya's been properly established, so Kaante should just release in January instead. I want to see Sathiya (even though I've seen Alai Payuthey twice) because I know it will be good.

Sanjay Gupta is a really fortunate man, for so many people to still expect something great from someone who has only made crap so far. The funny thing is unlike a lot of others in Bollywood who also make crap, he has not even had any successful films.

PS: 'Awara Pagal Deewana' was crap. But I guess ultimately atleast a couple of films have to do well. I mean since Bollywood pretty much only makes crap, ultimately the audience has to go see something.

While North Indian's have two big releases, South Indian's will have one major release....Priyasdarshan's Lessa Leesa. Already reviews of the film from critics have been quite excellent and some reviewers call it one of the best Indian movie made this year. I hope this film does well as the director spent a whole year on this solo project ensuring that it is his best work since Virasat. He even plans to re-make it in Hindi if Tamil audiences accept the subject matter (which is being kept a secret) .

Sunny can you give us more details on Leesa Leesa please? Who's in it? What's it about, etc.....

I kinda remember hearing about it and correct me if I'm wrong, but is it not in the teenage movie genre (kinda like American Pie-ish)?

Oh and the big question - do Ayngaran have the rights to the DVD?

Amen. he's also fortunate to be friends with Sunjay Dutt who has been acting in a lot of his mindless movies for a long time now(and who incidentally is lucky most of the time with the movies he chooses, cannot attribute his choices to intelligent selection at all). He is at best a copy cat and not a decent one even. he has NO sense for script or story telling....he's like a car salesman that promises the world and delivers very little(no offense meant to the profession, it is simply an occupational hazard of theirs I guess)....

This time too the product will be short on deliverance (my prediction). I will be mighty surprised if it is anything but....oh how I want to be proven wrong....but........having seen Gupta-isms in the past.....<that sinking feeling again>
