Yeah, thats cos I feel non-hindi speaking or ppl who dont understand hindi very well should get a chance to understand Hindi esp. Hindi dialogues in Films... (considering the pathetic nature of translation..folks @ EROS have...) I am kicking this off...and hope that others might also share in with their stuff.... Please remember that the point here is not to give a literal translation of the dialogue, but a punched up dialogue which reveals the mood of the person who is mouthing it in the film
My Fav dialogue sequence would be from the Film Deewar (Amitabh and Shashi Kapoor meeting below the bridge) ----------------------------------------------- A :- Shukr Hain Main toh samjha tha yahan bhi tum police ki vardi mein aaoge. Mujhe aane mein der toh nahi hui ? (Phew ! Ami I not glad to see you here without your police unform ? I hope I have met the deadline for our meeting ? )
S :- Koi baat nahi..Car se aane wale aksar der se aate hain (Thats absolutely fine, aristrocrats are on a different time domain, something different from us, plebians)
A :- Jaante ho ravi, maine tumhein yahan milne kyon bulaya hai ? (Do you understand Ravi, why have I chosen this location for our rendezvous ? )
S :`- Mere ghar aana tumhari shaan ke khilaaf hain bhai, tumhare ghar jaane mere usool ke khilaaf hai. Hum kahin aur hi mil sakte the. (Your ego prevents you from stepping foot into my house. The commitment towards my cause, prevents me from going to yours. There was no other alternative but to have a meeting at some other loaction)
A :- Nahin Ravi hum aur kahin nahin, sirf yahan mil sakte hain. Hum ek doosre se kitne bhi alag ho jaaye, hamare bachpan ek doosre se kabhi bhi alag nahi ho sakte. Aaj hum dono ke beech jab saare pul toot chuke hain, bas ek yehi pul bacha tha, yeh pul jiske neeche humne apna bachpan guzara.
(No Ravi we couldnt have met at any other place sans this. We may have light years of separation between us, but that wont erase our childhood, something which we have and will share forever. Bridges of understanding between us may have broken but this "bridge" still stands, a testemant to our common childhood and those memories which we cannot erase)
A :- Main jo kehne chahata hoon usse pehle yeh pooch loon is waqt mujhe sunne wala kaun hai, ek bhai ya ek police officer ?
(before I say anything, I would like to know who is the "person" standing in front of me..a beloved brother or a vicious police officer)
S :- Jab tak ek bhai bol raha hai ek bhai sun raha hai. Jab ek mujrim bolega, ek police afsar sunega (As long as a brother speaks, another brother gives him an audience. When a criminal speaks up, a police officer would be standing near him )
