Hi,

I am a new DVD collector. I am all for good quality, like what DEI produces. Still, some movies , like the upcoming DDLJ, Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, and others aren't made by reputable manufacturers. I mean, I would love to find DDLJ by DEI, but DEI just doesn't make it. So what do you guys do?

...secondly, i'm trying to bring my cllection up to 50, so what movies would you recommend...this is what i have so far:

jo jeeta wohi sikandar
ddlj (pre-order...i should get it in a month or two)
kuch kuch hota hai
pyaar tune kya kiya
rangeela
beta
dil ka kya kasoor
taal
hum dil de chuke sanam
sarfarosh
ghulam
raja hindustani
dil se
fiza
dil chahta hai
love ke liye kuch bhi karega
khamoshi

i'm not into really old movies('60s, '70s,etc.) , and I don't like too much violence...the ending doesn't ahve to be a happy one, and I do care if there's a plot or not. Thanks a lot

I guess Kaho Na Pyar Hai by DEI would be worth adding to your collection (if you like that sort of thing :D ).

You already have got off to a good start with some excellent titles ...

A couple of other titles that are worth checking out:

Dhadkhan (EROS - OK picture but the sound is psuedo 5.1)
Zubeida (YRF - ok picture - good sound)

I can't think of many more - my mind has gone blank
???

How is the quality of Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikandar?

I can't tell if you're looking for good *quality* DVDs, or if a well-rounded collection of 80s-90s *films* is your aim. I'm assuming the latter:

1942: A Love Story
Bombay
Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak
Would recommend Satya but you don't like violence - oh well, looks like I'm recommending it anyway
Darr
Maine Pyaar Kiya (I HATED this but I seem to be the only one)
Dil To Pagal Hai
Hum Hain Rahi Pyaar Ke
Judaai
Mast (Don't know why ppl hated this so much!)
Baazigar??

great movie recommendations, sometimes it's hard to come up with them by yourself even though you know they're great..

actually, I was the one that wans't clear in my post...I like to get DVD's of the excellent movies regardless of the quality (even though Yash Raj comes out with crap, i will still get DDLJ), but I also like to collect decent movies that are great DVD's because of quality, supplements, etc.

also, when I said I don't like violence, I meant I don't like mindless violence like in a lot of the '80s movies....movies like Darr and Baazigar have violence that coincides with the plot, so those movies I can still enjoy .

Hi,
I would include KKHH and Mohabbatein. You seem to like the newer style of films like DCH, Love Ke Liye and what not, these aren't exactly that but at least they are modern.

The DVD isn't all that spectacular quality-wise, but the movie is worth it, and the price is alright, too.

What is the aspect ratio on the dvd? Could you compare it to any title in your collection? Thanks

Congress,

Where do you look to find the aspect ratio. It's not on the DVD box. Amongst my collection, I'd say JJWS is in the bottom quarter quality wise. You can even see those black stripes flash on the screen on a rare occasion, as you might on VHS! Still, it's much better than VHS quality, but it's no masterpiece. A lot of the poor video has to do with the fact that it's an old movie and a lot of the people aren't exactly supposed to be looking flashy with crisp clothes; that was part of the atmosphere they're creating.

If you collect DVD's based on video/audio quality, this is not for you.
