Has anyone seen the AYN version of Mani Ratnam's Bombay? It is in Tamil and I wonder what the DVD specs might be. I was specifically wondering what aspect ratio the AYN DVD is in and the image quality? I was also wondering if there are any other differences to the actual film versions beside the language? I think I would prefer the Tamil version if the aspect ratio was true to the film unlike the 'cropped' Eros version.

Any volunteers for the screen shot comparison of the 3 versions available.

1) DEI-EROS (Film Mode)
2) EROS (most likely Video Mode)
3) AYN (most likely Video Mode)

Alright, these specs from DVD Reviewer are what I was looking for thanks:
Video Tracks Widescreen Anamorphic 2.20:1
Audio Tracks Dolby Digital 5.1 Tamil
Subtitle Tracks English

I am going to find this version and buy it to see how it looks.

We have seen in the past that DEI's non-anamorphic (progressive) versions have a better PQ than their anamorphic counterparts from EROS and YRF (interlaced).

It will be intresting to see how DEI's progressive but non-anamorphic DVD compares with AYN's anamorphic but interlaced (presumably) DVD.

Thanks.

Rana

Ayngaran DVD is actually not that bad dispite it being interlaced. The only problems I found on this disc was the wear and tear (during the start and end of the film) and film grain (which might have been intentional for artistic reasons but not to sure). The DVD encoding isn't as good as DEI's version but DEI's version has its faults too.

DEI version is wrongly colour corrected and as a result some scenes end up being too dark or another colour in some shots. But the DVD quality itself it quite remarkerble in places.

Ayngaran's version was supervised by Ratnam who worked on grading and colour correction during its telecine tranfer onto Digibeta. With this and the fact that the aspect ratio & language is intact this Ayngaran version has the upper hand.

Thanks for the offer, I may take you up on it.
Now I am wondering if the songs in the Tamil version of "Bombay" are also 'dubbed' and sung by different Tamil playback singers? I know that the Tamil version of "Dil Se..", "Uyirae" is 'dubbed' by different playback singers on the songs. Is the Tamil version of "Bombay" also sung by Tamil singers. :stupid:

Yes the songs are in Tamil. The Ayngaran disc also has a Telugu track on it, and the songs on that one are sung in Telugu.
