The name of the film seems strange at first. Many people can’t decipher it. This name however is in the style of Laila Majnu, Shirin Farhad or Heer Ranza. Like these pairs of lovers, Shinshinaki is the female and Bubalaboo is the male lover. Obviously, this was a Laila Majnu type romantic film.

This film was the unlikely first victim of the central government’s authority to overrule the censor board, an action enabled by the Indian Cinematograph Act passed that year. Given a Universal certificate by the censors, the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting banned the film because of its ‘low moral tone’ and because it `throws the glamour of romance and heroism over criminal characters, treats sacred subjects irreverently and is, in consequence, opposed to the interests of public decency and morality’. The ban was later revoked but it ruined the film’s commercial chances.It was no wonder the film flopped and forgotten. However, the knowlegeable listeners will remember the film for C.Ramchandra’s heavenly music; especially for the song ” Tum Kya Jano Tumhari Yadmein “, which is masterpiece from the arsenal of C.Ramchandra-Lata combination.

When C. Ramchandra heard the song ‘Tum na jaane, kis jahan mein kho gaye’ from Saza (1950), he commented to S. D. Burman that he would compose a similar melody in terms of its exquisiteness and the answer was “Tum kya jano” from ‘Shin Shinaki Bubla Boo’ (1952).

Lyricist P.L.Santoshi was then madly in love of Rehana, the film’s heroine. When Rehana refused to open the door for her besotted lover— the lyricist P L Santoshi—he used to sit outside her door all night, crying his heart out. We can see the reflections of his anguish and pains of miseries in the lyrics of this song. Rehana used him for her ascend to success , divested him of all his wealth and finally ditched him. She went to Pakistan leaving the poor, derilict P.L.Santoshi in utter doldrum conditions. P.L.Santoshi ended his life in loneliness. One’s heart can’t help welling up with sympathy towards this gifted and talented man.

As for the rendering of this out of world melody, when the ultimate natural instrument, the human voice is so beautiful, and when the energy of the melody maker is so divine, when the words of the poet echo the vibrations from the heart, then apart from the subtle timely beats of tabla, no more instrument is necessary....

Another important segment that I noticed today from another film SHABNAM (Mehmood). It's most famous song is missing in the available DVDs as well as film's youtube postings. Luckily, this song video itself is available on youtube. I'm sure you all know this famous song and agree that this was the most melodious famous and song from this film:

With Youtube, more and more Bollywood film videos are becoming available. Some of those of the films where none existed before or a total crap was available before. One of the 70s film (Joy Mukherjee's INSPECTOR) that I liked, never found a good print and even if a bad print, not complete glamour song sequence in climax. This film was recently posted in excellent (Digital 25 fps) print. Clear distinct frames.

As the frames were clearly distinct, one could easily count that although video is 25fps (film is 24 fps), there is no 4% speed up as every 24th frame is repeated in 25th.

Noticed this song from film Jaanwar (Shammi Kapoor) that was mentioned as filmed but not included in the film. Searching on youtube, found this song easily. (Raat Yun Dil Mein Teri by Asha, Mohd Rafi)

When I saw this film in theatre at time of its release (1965), it definitely was in the film. As the description says, 'not included in the film', it'll be interesting to see if it is in the DEI/BEI DVD of this film ??

(Not a very memorable song, but it compliments the storyline situation of the film. I sure had forgotten this song, but revived my memory as I saw it on youtube).
