PREM PARBAT (1973) (Prem Parvat)
Hema Malini, Rehana Sultan,
Producer: Shanti Sagar who also produced Aakhri Dakoo (Randhir Kapoor)

Came across this haunting song from this film on youtube, for not such an old film but I guess, no print exists as mentioned in youtube poster.

According to IMDB, the print of the film got destroyed, so the film now can't be seen. There is a short clip on YouTube that is VHS sourced, so there may be a VHS print somewhere - I guess it would be hard to find nowadays though!

Also wanted to include a long, lost Guru Dutt film called "Sailaab".
https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0047439/
This film has a Hemant Kumar song that also branches a tandem variant, sung by Geeta Dutt. "Hai Yeh Duniya Kaun Si": https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k2az98kVvBc

A lost film by Basu Bhattacharya, "Uski Kahani".
https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0157141/
This is one of Dina Pathak's early films. This film also marks the debut of actress Anju Mahendru.
A great Geeta Dutt song belongs to this film, "Aaj Ki Kali Ghata". Music is by Kanu Roy.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fKWEUwR0Lqw

A lot of Geeta Dutt songs that I have come across in the years belong to lost films:-
Aasman (1952) this film marks the debut of Asha Parekh as child artist. Again, a wonderful Geeta Dutt song claims home to this film. "Dekho Jadoo Bhare More Nain". Music is by O.P. Nayyar
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=svvCH72epvQ

Baadbaan (1954) This film has a song that has a tandem variant. Hemant Kumar and Geeta Dutt immortalize their respective solo renditions of "Kaise Koi Jiye". Music is by a forgotten composer called Timir Baran.
Geeta Dutt version: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z86G6g-KQxs
Hemant Kumar version: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rD9Fn3aWJMU

Shin Shinaki Boobla Boo (1952)

I have known of the film's melancholic song "Tum Kya Jano Tumhari Yaad Mein" for a while, but there seem to be no sightings of the films at all.

An interesting tidbit about the film (and the song) that I read in a comment on the song's YouTube post.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vmzPqIKrNXw
Quote:
The name of the film seems strange at first. Many people can’t decipher it. This name however is in the style of Laila Majnu, Shirin Farhad or Heer Ranza. Like these pairs of lovers, Shinshinaki is the female and Bubalaboo is the male lover. Obviously, this was a Laila Majnu type romantic film.

This film was the unlikely first victim of the central government’s authority to overrule the censor board, an action enabled by the Indian Cinematograph Act passed that year. Given a Universal certificate by the censors, the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting banned the film because of its ‘low moral tone’ and because it `throws the glamour of romance and heroism over criminal characters, treats sacred subjects irreverently and is, in consequence, opposed to the interests of public decency and morality’. The ban was later revoked but it ruined the film’s commercial chances. It was no wonder the film flopped and forgotten. However, the knowlegeable listeners will remember the film for C.Ramchandra’s heavenly music; especially for the song ” Tum Kya Jano Tumhari Yadmein “, which is masterpiece from the arsenal of C.Ramchandra-Lata combination.

When C. Ramchandra heard the song ‘Tum na jaane, kis jahan mein kho gaye’ from Saza (1950), he commented to S. D. Burman that he would compose a similar melody in terms of its exquisiteness and the answer was “Tum kya jano” from ‘Shin Shinaki Bubla Boo’ (1952).

Lyricist P.L.Santoshi was then madly in love of Rehana, the film’s heroine. When Rehana refused to open the door for her besotted lover— the lyricist P L Santoshi—he used to sit outside her door all night, crying his heart out. We can see the reflections of his anguish and pains of miseries in the lyrics of this song. Rehana used him for her ascend to success , divested him of all his wealth and finally ditched him. She went to Pakistan leaving the poor, derilict P.L.Santoshi in utter doldrum conditions. P.L.Santoshi ended his life in loneliness. One’s heart can’t help welling up with sympathy towards this gifted and talented man.

As for the rendering of this out of world melody, when the ultimate natural instrument, the human voice is so beautiful, and when the energy of the melody maker is so divine, when the words of the poet echo the vibrations from the heart, then apart from the subtle timely beats of tabla, no more instrument is necessary....

I have recently got in touch with a seller in India, who has access to a lot of rare films. He has sent me the below image of films that are available, these are films that were only ever released on VHS - I've never heard of most of them (apart from Be-Lagaam), thought the image would fit well into this thread!

It's great to know a good source for lost films. Hopefully, he has some lost film clips too, that films are available but some important segments are no where to be found.

For example: I've been looking for the film Bachpan (Sanjeev Kumar) song (video) 'Pagli Naam Rakh Diya'.

------------------------------------------------------------------

Another important segment that I noticed today from another film SHABNAM (Mehmood). It's most famous song is missing in the available DVDs as well as film's youtube postings. Luckily, this song video itself is available on youtube. I'm sure you all know this famous song and agree that this swas the most melodious famous and song from this film:
Maine Rakkha Hai Mohhabbat Apne Afsaane Ka Naam
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dpNBRUkEAm4

It's a nice movie with so many melodious songs.
BTW, this 'Mehmood film' scene was copied in Amitabh's SHAHENSHAH (or Toofan). It's the scene where Amitabh shows off being beaten by himself supposed to be humshakal. Not only this, actually, Amitabh's character and acting are copied from Mehmood character in Shabnam.

Another two films:

-------------------------------------------------

Akbar Khan's TajMahal: An Eternal Love Story (2005):
(Noor Jehan's daughter Sonya Jehan as Mumtaz Mahal)

This one is not really lost but has not been made available. This was an extremely high budget BIG film that even got released in theatres, but according to the producer Akbar Khan, it did not get a proper release and hence the film did not attract enough audiences. He withdrew the film immediately (obviously, before anyone could even make a bootleg copy). Akbar Khan rightly does not want to bring this film out without getting a fair price. And hence, a Mega-Film may never see the light of the day (or theatre or Home video)

-------------------------------------------------

Raj Kumar - Sadhana's ULFAT or Ulfat Ki Nayee Manzilein:

It's well known, film was almost completed in the 70s but not completely. Years later RajKumar completed this film as 'ULFAT KI NAYEE MANZILEIN', using body doubles for Sadhana and perhaps for Waheeda Rehman as well (actresses aged), for the remainder scenes. Not sure whether it released in theatres or not but the videos are hard to get by. Presently, it's video songs are available on the web. At one time, I did find the complete film but haven't found it lately.

I remember seeing the VHS for Ulfat Ki Nayee Manzilein release in the mid 90s, there is a 5 minute clip, including the starting credits here:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fy7meXQf6_M

There are also portions of what looks like a cam print of Taj Mahal: An Eternal Love Story here:

Thanks Bhaskar. I had seen full Ulfat - - - Manziein on youtube sometime ago. Not a great print but you could see the film. I can't find it now. May be, it will appear again.

Akbar Khan's Tajmahal: Thanks for the link. Print is not bad. Stretched picture in that link, can be corrected using VLC player's AR Control. Portions I saw are great. Film should not have flopped if it was released with proper publicity. I'll watch it on this link you provided.

Another famous and one of the best songs from (a film that has so many more melodious songs anyway) EK SAPERA EK LUTERA is missing from it's available DVD versions and it's youtube postings.
Door Kahin Door Hamein Le Chalo Sanam, Jahan Na Ho Koiee Hum Dono Ke Siwai

It's not in my EROS DVD, and is not in SEPL posting on youtube either.
Even the IMDB has film length as 125 min which is the runtime of EROS DVD. This song is 5min 30 sec (EXCEL VHS). Strats with repeat words Mere Sanam Mere Sanam (& just one verse 'Tu Jo Nahin, Kuchh Bhi Nahin' & music for over 2 min and then the song main verse (Actually, it's 2 songs in one like Bobby Pyar Mein Sauda Nahin & Jhoot Bole Kauvva Kaate). Moreover, this is the only place which justifies the SAPERA character of Feroz Khan and it's only in this song in the film that there is Been playing. So, it's kind of important for the title.
It's near the end of the film where the Sapera character has managed to switch places with the prince and has the prince tied up. It's a dream sequence though.
Youtube Video Link :
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AtnbZgOY7DA
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9WYZRMPvWLM&t=101s
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-X6dCFWB7zg&t=85s (full audio recording)

And now, the film runtime:
1975 CC 3738 meters which is 136 min
IMDB lists same as EROS DVD runtime of 125 min. This actually is 130 min film time (4% speedup in this video).
Add 5min 30 sec video of missing song (5min 40 sec film time) and we get the full 136 min film time.

Two more lost films that captured my attention:-
1) Sati Savitri (1964)
https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0358106/
Directed by Shantilal Soni. Cast: Anjali Devi, Mahipal, Jeevan, Aruna Irani & others.
Songs: Jeevan Dor Tumhin Sang Bandhi & Tum Gagan Ke Chandrama Ho (excellent songs, two of my all-time favourites.)

2) Kabhi Andhera Kabhi Ujala (1958)
https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0357820/
Directed by C. P. Dixit. Cast: Kishore Kumar, Nutan, Kumkum & others.
Songs: Surma Mera Nirala & Jahan Walon Isse Kehta Hain.

Joy Mukherjee's INSPECTOR (Joy Mukherjee - Alka)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4MPwEAiS7xQ

Another of my favourite 60-70s film that I never found a video until a few years ago and that too was not a great print and did not have the segment I wanted. It recently got posted on youtube and is complete and also excellent digital HD (1080P youtube posting) print. Songs are excellent along with eye candy print. I liked this film better than Jeetender's hit film FARZ, of the same genere of same era.

With this, I think there are only two of my fav films (or segments) of the 60-70s era left that I would like to see.
1) Parde Ke Peechhey (A worst than crap print is on youtube)
2) Song from film BACHPAN, Paglee Naam Rakh Diya.

Quote:
With Youtube, more and more Bollywood film videos are becoming available. Some of those of the films where none existed before or a total crap was available before. One of the 70s film (Joy Mukherjee's INSPECTOR) that I liked, never found a good print and even if a bad print, not complete glamour song sequence in climax. This film was recently posted in excellent (Digital 25 fps) print. Clear distinct frames.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4MPwEAiS7xQ
As the frames were clearly distinct, one could easily count that although video is 25fps (film is 24 fps), there is no 4% speed up as every 24th frame is repeated in 25th.

Noticed this song from film Jaanwar (Shammi Kapoor) that was mentioned as filmed but not included in the film. Searching on youtube, found this song easily. (Raat Yun Dil Mein Teri by Asha, Mohd Rafi)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ql5m9pn6E6M

When I saw this film in theatre at time of its release (1965), it definitely was in the film. As the description says, 'not included in the film', it'll be interesting to see if it is in the DEI/BEI DVD of this film ??

(Not a very memorable song, but it compliments the storyline situation of the film. I sure had forgotten this song, but revived my memory as I saw it on youtube).

I'm pretty sure this was in the film ... I can't remember is I have the DEI DVD of the film. I'm about to set myself up ripping all of my DVDs to a NAS drive because I don't really play DVDs in a player anymore. If I have it I will check and report back. This song was a big deal because this was a poem by the famous Urdu poet Faiz Ahmad Faiz. I'm wondering if, for a time, it was cut out of the film prints due to Faiz being Pakistani?
