Playing I-Max version in 2 Toronto Cineplexes.

Really glad to see screening in US, Canada, better than India.

A total of 4-5 I-Max theatres in India (4 out of 4000 where D-3 is screening), and looks like plenty in US Canada.

Two theatres in Toronto screening in I-Max (2 out of 8 where D3 is screening).
One theatre in Montreal showing it in I-Max (1 out of 1 showing in I-Max in Montreal)
Ottawa: No I-Max screening. Regular showing in 2 theatres.

So, it's 3 out of 11 theatres in Eastern Canada, showing it in I-Max.

Western Canada: Did not find any I-Max screening listing.

There must be many in US where it's showing in I-Max.

Aamir Khan: Watch 'Dhoom 3' in your own budget
20 December 2013

Actor Aamir Khan is worried about reports that the ticket rates for his film "Dhoom 3", releasing Friday, have been increased. He says it's a "misconception" and that he wants all audiences to watch the action adventure film as per their own budget - whether for Rs.70 or Rs.700.

"If there is this misconception that the ticket prices for 'Dhoom 3' have been increased, then the audience will not come to watch the film in theatres. For the past two to three days I have been worried about this," Aamir told reporters at a press conference.

The actor, who plays an antagonist in the movie, has urged the media to avoid "spreading this word".

"I want everyone to watch this film in their own budget. In Mumbai, there is a theater like Gaiety Galaxy where you get to see the film in Rs.70.

"The ticket price for 'Dhoom 3' is exactly like that of 'Chennai Express'. It's the same rate and in no theatres the ticket rate has been increased. I want to clarify this. There is not even one percent of increase in the ticket price," Aamir said.

However, he pointed out that "Dhoom 3" is the first Bollywood film to be released in the IMAX format, a specialised film format. And ticket rates at IMAX theatres are usually higher as compared to other theatres.

"There are a total four to five theaters of IMAX in India - two in Mumbai, one in Hyderabad and other one in Bangalore. The movie is coming in around 4,000 screens across India, so apart from those four screens, the rest of the screens will have the same ticket price as of previous films."

"This is the first Indian film in IMAX and the ticket rates of IMAX is more than other tickets. If you want to see in IMAX the price will be as per IMAX standards," he added.

The IMAX screens have set their prices at Rs.400-600 for the morning shows and Rs.700-900 for the night shows, according to their official website.

Directed by Vijay Krishna Acharya, "Dhoom 3" also features Katrina Kaif, Abhishek Bachchan and Uday Chopra.

Saw it today (regular screening). Excellent Dhoom film.

In every aspect it's One-better than earlier Dhoom films (except perhaps music; and that too I can't say for sure until I give it a chance to grow on me); Story, Action, Acting, Thrills, Suspense, Emotions, Cinematography.
Can't wait to see what would it be on I-Max (if I get a chance). IMHO, Malang song alone in I-Max would be Paisa Vasool.

No way, Amir Khan or Sahir's character is Anti-Hero in this film.

It sure had plenty of directional sound. At one point, actually, it was annoying of certain cell phone ring type music coming from a side speaker, where it was not warranted or was int-eruptive).

In one of the scenes towards the beginning of the film, one support steel rope, for stunts, was quite visible (they forgot to erase it ??)

Film Screening Time was 2 hrs 51 min (from start to end of end credits).

--------------------------
I read one nonsense comment from someone, that must be a westerner, that what's good about this film, it's just a copy of Fast & Furious. Action is similar to Dhoom 1,2 so how can it be copied from F&F ?? I haven't seen F&F but can't imagine F&F having kind of deep emotions like in Indian films, specially in D3.

Dhoom 3 Sets Boxoffice On Fire
22 December 2013

Dhoom 3 is set to emerge a huge blockbuster as it showed a phenomenal trend on Saturday. The second day today has become the key as business is now just about the first 20-25 days even for the films which sustain. The film is now sure to have extraordinary collections over the weekdays.

Dhoom 3 has hardly dropped on Saturday with early estimates in the 29.50 crore nett range. The trend is phenomenal as multiplexes had collections matching Friday with some places even better. After such a bumper start a 15-20% drop would have been a good trend but the drop here is much less.

North India has seen phenomenal collections despite the weather which is leaving morning and night shows lower at places but still the film is putting up never seen before numbers.

The film is easily the biggest hit of the year and its all about where does it end now.

‘Dhoom 3′ Breaks Record For Biggest Bollywood Opening Weekend In North America

Quote:
UPDATE, SUNDAY AM: With the estimates now tallied, Dhoom 3 has set a new record for biggest opening weekend of a Bollywood film ever in North America. The actioner’s three-day cume is estimated at $3.305M, overtaking the previous record holder Chennai Express, which grossed $2.22M when it bowed last August. At 236 playdates, Dhoom 3 had a strong per-screen average of $14,004 this weekend. The breakdown is $1.075M for Friday, $1.129M on Saturday and $940,000 on Sunday.

PREVIOUS, SATURDAY AM: Dhoom 3, the action thriller that is also playing like gangbusters in India, is tallying up records in North America this weekend. The opening day estimate on the Bollywood film in 236 theaters is $1.075M and it is on track for a $3.5M three-day weekend. That marks the biggest opening ever for a Bollywood title in North America. Dhoom 3 now has the distinction of being the first Bollywood movie to do over $1M on its opening day. It also scored the highest opening gross for any Indian movie, surpassing the previous record holder, Disney‘s UTV love story Chennai Express (which grossed an estimated $745K for its Friday). On Dhoom‘s opening day, it had a per screen average of about $4,500 versus Chennai‘s roughly $3,800. This has been a strong year for Bollywood in North America. Before Chennai Express was released, romcom Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani broke into the Top 10 on its June opening with a $1.3M first weekend take. It must be noted that Yash Raj Films‘ Dhoom 3 has the widest release also to date. Dhoom 3, written and directed by Vijay Krishna Acharya and produced by Aditya Chopra, is considered to be one of the most expensive Indian films of all time and its running time is almost three hours. The high-tech heist actioner shot with Chicago as its backdrop is about a circus star out for revenge when his father dies who goes after the Chicago banker that led to his demise. The franchise is also playing in India to phenom numbers – translating to $6.1M in U.S. dollars. It is also setting records as the highest opener in Australia, more than doubling the previous Indian film, Jab Tak Hai Jaan and also in the UAE. Dhoom 3 stars Aamir Khan, Abhishek Bachchan, Uday Chopra, and Katrina Kaif. Check out the trailer:

Dhoom 3 Crosses 200 CRORE Worldwide In Three Days
23 December 2013

Dhoom 3 has set a new benchmark as it has crossed the 200 crore mark for weekend collections worldwide. It is the first film to cross the enviable 200 crore mark. Chennai Express had grossed 160 crore approx in its first three days.

The gross collections in India are around 130 crore and Sunday figures for some markets in overseas are not available yet it is sure to be over 70 crore and could even go over 75 crore. The total should come in the range of $12 million.

The out performance in overseas is even bigger than in India. The India collections are just 9-10% bigger than Chennai Express but overseas collections are 60-65% higher with the film seeing records smashed by huge margins wherever released.

To have box office receipts of 200 crore plus across the world is just extraordinary. The feat is difficult to explain in words but the fact that Dabangg 2 which released exactly one year ago was the first film to hit 100 crore wordwide tells the story as Dhoom 3 has doubled that figure in just 12 months and that too with a holiday in the domestic market.

The unparalleled mark of 500 CRORE worldwide is on for Dhoom 3.

Reason for exceptionally high Overseas must be due to I-Max screenings. It's the Overseas, where Dhoom3 released in Max # of I-Max theatres. In India it's only 4 I-Max. I-Max Theatres are the biggest in Cineplexes, Tickets are 60-70% higher, All know that I-Max theatre is usually avail for just one week (Rarely does a film gets more than one week in I-Max due to scaricity and demand for I-Max) so want to catch it in the 1st week. Result: About 10 times the collections from I-Max theatre.

BTW, in US, it's among top 10 films at # 9 in total weekend collections. Among medium to wide release films, it's # 1 at $ 14,000 per screen, aprox double of its rivals.

Only film that beats it in US collections is a Limited Release (Her) 6 screens with $ 43,000 per screen. (perhaps special shows for charity or grand premieres ??)

Dhoom 3 To Be Highest All Time Grosser In Ten Days
25th December 2013

Dhoom 3 will become the highest grossing Hindi film ever in just ten days. The highest grossing Hindi film till date is Chennai Express at 208 crore nett and the way Dhoom 3 is going this figure will be breached at the end of business on Sunday.

The film has already grossed around 160 crore nett in six days and next four days should see business of at least 50 crore nett even in worst case scenario.

Chennai Express took 21 days to become the highest grosser ever while the earlier highest all time grossers 3 Idiots and Ghajini managed the feat in a similar time to Dhoom 3. Both films took around 10-11 days. The distributor share of the film will be second or third highest ever in just seven days.

By the end of the week (Dec 20-26) Dhoom 3 surpassed even 'Her' in per screen collections for the week. Dhoom3 is at $ 24,057 (239 screens) and it's nearest rival at $22,525 (9 screens) per screen. 'Her' is at $ 16,667 (47 screens) per screen and was # 3 in per screen collections.

Most I-Max screens are still showing Dhoom 3 in week two but will definitely be off I-Max in week 3, as I-Max is reserved for new films only (stiff competition for I-Max theatres). Two weeks in I-Max is already a big achievement.

I caught it on reg screen, not IMAX . It did have a few here and there dimensional effects , not worthy of over the head action and fluff though;(
First half, mostly fluff!
Second half with another great act by Amir Khan makes it up.
Overall an enjoyable film, polish, excellent production values!
Must watch entertainment one time!
Go for it!
Happy New Year to all
Dhoom machale come on o people Dhoom!

Dhoom 3 May Achieve The Toughest All Time Record
31 december 2013

Dhoom 3 has already broken most all time records be it the Domestic circuits or the Overseas circuits and may achieve the toughest record which is the United Kingdom total gross record which is held by My Name Is Khan at £2,630,000. Dhoom 3 is over £2 million in 11 days.

The film is already the highest grosser ever in US/Canada, Gulf and Australia but the UK record is tougher task and should take the film around 3 weeks. A £3 million total would be awesome but its a struggling market as prior to Dhoom 3, six out of the top ten grossers were films released prior to 2010.

Another tough record is the Mumbai circuit record which stands at 79 crore nett by Three Idiots but this will be broken either by the end of week two or a day or two later.
