These are screenshots of Satyajit Ray's Ghare-Baire (1984) from the DVD that came along with the Tagore Stories on Film package (with 5 other movies) released by NFDC (under license from Maxtech Entertainment). This DVD was authored by Shemaroo but there are no "Shemaroo" watermarks throughout the movie. It is 3:2 pulled-down progressive transfer and the best that there is of this wonderful movie.

Screenshots of the same movie from the Eagle DVD (DON'T even THINK about BUYING this). As I don't own this DVD I cannot provide exact comparison screenshots. But do note that this DVD has DD 5.1 Audio while the NFDC DVD has 2.0 Mono.

Screenshots from the Artificial Eye DVD can be found at DVDBeaver.

The image is soft in this transfer. Also it has non-removable English subtitles. But this DVD does have an Extra in the form of a 50 minute documentary on "The Home and the World" entitled "The Music of Satyajit Ray".

So if you want to own this movie on DVD, the NFDC one (it comes with 5 other rare movies) should be your choice in my humble opinion.

Comments would be highly appreciated...

Yes. A mind-blowing transfer if there was ever one. Totally changed my view of the movie and has become my favorite Satyajit Ray.

Ah...the things a good transfer can do...Why don't Indian Brand Distributors understand this concept. It's a shame that we have to look upon Foreign Distributors (like Criterion, Artifical Eye, DEI, EVP) for a decent and watermark-less transfer of our own movies.
