I bought a Canon HF100 Flash based HD Camcorder and it records files to my 8gb SDHC card in MTS format. The supplied Canon software converts it to M2TS :?

Anyone know the easiest way to convert to Mpeg2 for conversion to DVD? Paid or Freeware or "Other" means ;)

Either or both should solve the issue I think.

I am quite sure that .m2t is mpeg2 and you should not need to convert anything.

m2t = MPEG 2 Transport (stream)
The m2t file extention is used for HDV Video Files by most editing software.

The PS3 can natively play files with the m2t file extention.

.MTS files from the Canon and many other HD camcorders are encoded in AVCHD and can be converted to any other format using this neat little open source package;

http://mediacoder.sourceforge.net/index.htm

I got the Sony TG3 and have managed to convert from AVCHD to other formats using MediaCoder 0.6.1.4130 or later, more info here;

Latest version is quite new and a bit unstable but does work.

AVCHD could be burnt on a dvd 5 as data or BDV structure! I think, and PS3 plays it.

Yeh your right, the files recorded are in BDV structure and PS3 does play them fine.

Would you record the DVD as a data DVD? Sorry being a newbie on this .. how would one burn the DVD? What files and folders would I carry over to the data DVD (if thats the case) structure?

Just found out that the bundled software with the Canon HF100 (Pixela Image Mixer) can make AVCHD DVDs which are fully compatible with the PS3. It will make a DVD with menus. Take the burning time of a DVD and add 5 mins to it. I did a test DVD yesterday and was happy to see it worked with the same HD quality on my PS3.
