Run, don't walk to the closest theater and watch Parineeta. I myself just got back from watching Parineeta or should I say, from watching one of the great events of Indian Cinema. I am truelly overwhelmed by how much I enjoyed watching this film, something truelly worthy of sending to the Academy Awards. If there is only one film you plan on seeing in the theater this year, then let this be it, the chances of anything better coming along are remote to nil. I can't imagine anyone that appreciates good cinema not likeing this film. I was going to say Taran Adarsh not included, but then again the description, 'appreciates good cinema', automatically excludes the likes of Mr Adarsh anyhow.

I gotta go right now and will probably give a more indepth review later. In the meantime guys don't wait, go watch the film for yourself and take your loved one's along. By the way I watched the film with my mother and wife and both of them enjoyed the film as much as I did if not more.

This is third thread of very high recomendations Sanjay Bhaii!!

The preview I saw was nothing a short of reflection of a classic in making.

History will tell, whether Parineeta becomes Classic or Black or Devdas or Kisna or BNB!

Sanjay, when you get a chance, please do give us an in-depth review of "Parineeta". I would love to hear your thoughts.

Immediately after making my original post above, I thought to myself, have I gone overboard with my praise for the film. But then I thought to myself, "Ab bol hi diya hai, to dekh lenge". :)
But seriously, maybe I will be able to judge the film better after a second viewing, and I really cannot wait to watch it again, but for now, I stand by my original thoughts, simply because I can't remember when was the last time I enjoyed a hindi film as much as I did 'Parineeta'. It is not great for it's perfection, because it is not perfect. But it surely is great, inspite of it's imperfections.

One of the first thoughts that crossed my mind after I finished watching the film, and I mentioned it to my wife as we walked out of the theater, "I wonder what Devdas would have been like if it had been made by this Producer/Director/Music Director team rather than, the way over rated Sanjay Leela Bhansali".

As per sanjay's requestlets use this thread for all discussions

For the record I have not read any reviews ( good/bad) - that’s how I see film (I think we are our best critic - you like it then it is a masterpiece and if others share then even better ) . Hopefully I will be seeing it "the way its meant to be" , though I will have to be honest to acknowledge that I will not feel bad if I miss this in theaters ( never been a fan of period/costume drama). The music is wonderful though, probably my fav hindi soundtrack in a long time - hopefully it gels with the narration.

Wow! Sanjay, your views on Parineeta got my blood boiling. I haven't seen you this excited about an Indian film since Monsoon Wedding(which I love). Since I'm not too enthusiastic about the film's music, I was at first really uninterested in this film altogether. But I'm gonna take your word for it and probably check this film out later next week(after my mid-terms).

One thing is for sure, Sanjay Leela Bhansali really knows how to make some really great 'GRAND EYE CANDY'. This talent of his showed even in '1942 A Love Story', he was the 'Song director' in that film. Just a little trivia for those that might be interested.

I had earlier made a statement that, "I can't remember when was the last time I enjoyed a hindi film as much as I did Parineeta", but now that you mention it, I realize, that the last film I enjoyed as much, was 'Monsoon Wedding'. I just hope that I have not raised your expectations too much, wouldn't want you to be dissapointed because of that reason alone. But like I said earlier in this thread "Ab bol hi diya hai, to dekh lenge". :)

I am in absolute, 100% agreement Sanjay. I just got back from an afternoon screening, and I couldn't even talk about it to my family on the way home. I am utterly blown away by the film and I am already gearing up for a second viewing! My expectations were surpassed - everything is superlative here, from the screenplay (and dialogue) to the direction (mucho impressive). The acting is stellar (except Diya Mirza, who's always atrocious), with Vidya Balan stealing the show in the lead (probably the best debut performance I've ever seen).

I have a few quibbles (such as the Rekha item number, which can so easily be cut, and that the setting and period of the film is never steady), but they are minor.

The climax gave me chills down my spine. I can't remember the last time that has happened to me. Marvellously staged - that scene alone is a masterpiece in itself (forget Taran Adarsh's ridiculous thoughts).

One of the best films of the year (Holly or Bollywood-wise).

Just arrived back from a viewing of Parineeta.

What can I say, a master class in film making.
Sat there from beginning to Intermission to End amazed as to how the story played out.

The acting was first class. Saif Ali Khan made the role his own and the debut from Vidya Balan was spot on. Sunjay Dutt suited the role but did seem too old.

The music was picturised wonderfully. The story was akin to Devdas, but with a much more happier/sober ending. -Sanjay Leela Bansali please take note, this was the Devdas you failed to make

Setting the film in the 60’s was pitch perfect and couldn't imagine the story being set in modern day India which apparently was the initial idea

As endings go, it was intense and gripping and the twist at the end topped it off perfectly.

I tried to read many reviews before I went into the film, but Taran Adarsh & his review of Parineeta was so wrong. Ignore it. Why do they continue to pay such a tosser for shit reviews?

My advice to everyone is get out now and watch this masterpiece

I generally respect your opinions on movies, so I'll have to see this one soon. I like to support good work when I can.

This one is certainly recommended viewing. I did think the end went a little over the top, given that other things in the movie had been reined in rather well.....i liked the interpretation Chopra and Sarkar have brought about as the reason for Saif's character feeling betrayed.....anything more would be a giveaway at this point for people that have not seen the movie....i rememeber seeing SANKOCH (the Anil Biswas interpretation of the same novel, and that was sadly lacking in most depts.).....the narration is fluid....the pains they have taken to recreate the era very genuine....throw me more such stuff anyday and I will roll over and follow them to the theater like Pied Piper's mesmerized children....

Aarkayne, what did you think of the performances by Saif and Vidya, camerawork, etc.,? Damn!! I was planning to watch this one today but got tied up with work. Hopefully, in the next days, I'll get time to squeeze this one in.
