Only watched Mystic River. Doesn't live up to Clint Eastwood hype. I thought it was an alright film.

I think its a great film - def among the best-of what I have seen from Hollywood last year (btw I loved sideways also). As much as I adore Scorcese , i am yet to see Aviator - it seems to intrigue me less.

Million dollar baby is a good example of humanistic story telling at its best. I think Morgan Freeman did a fine job (imo he is one of the great(est?) contemporary American actors ) - you have to remember that Morgan Freeman is a supporting actor and also provides the voice-over narration, thereby leading/guiding the viewer into the lives of trainer/trainee . This role demands a subtle presence and not a overwhelming one and in this one he comes of with flying colors, I think his award is fully warranted. Also the way the trainee/trainer relationship flowers into a more gentler father/daughter relationship is heart-warming at best and heart-wrenching at worst – kudos to Clint Eastwood for achieving that. Hilary Swank is perfect as “white trash”, I cant get over her performance in boys don’t cry and she proves it again in this one.

With Hollywood being swamped by remakes, sequels and Gazillion dollar productions, I prefer simpler and subtler stories like Million Dollar Bab(ies) anytime of the day.

Thumps Way up from me

From World cinema, Million Dollar Baby is the best film I've seen so far in 2005.

:

I finally saw it!

It is a good film but I was not wowed!! like watching a BEST OSCAR FILM, like ENGLISH PATIENT , A BEAUTIFUL MIND, GANDHI etc!

Why the heck, Morgan do to get BEST SUPPORTING nod?

I think, Clint was THE BEST THING IN THE FILM.
DIALOGUES WERE A BIT CHEESY! But may be kept simplistic for a reason?

BEST ACTRESS , was GOOD but not ABSOLUTE CLASS ACT, like Charlize did for THE MONSTER etc, I like Hillary Swank for her absolute NON GLAM DOL< UNLIKE TRAISHWARIYA kinda ACT! but not wowed again!

Hillar Swank is a good actress and she has done a couple good roles!

The other thing ofcourse FILM IS TOO SAD! while I did prefer FEEL GOOD MESSAGE of THE BEAUTIFUL MIND(I adored that film) I think Jennifer Connely was better in that film than Hillary Swank here!

These are just my humble 2 cents after watching the film!

It is THUMPS UP too!! But It did not quite get into my list of some GREAT movies I have seen from HOLLYWOOD!

I liked no non sense, no frill look to the film, relationship between mentor/student is indeed heart warming, subtle and very naturally realistic, not on your face kinda BLACK!

I prefer any day acting of Clint here over AB in Black!

I liked Morgan Freeman and he is a great actor but I did not feel that his role was quite WHOLESOME! May be from a great actor I expected more presence!

I hope you guys realize that I do not like ON YOUR FACE acts! so Morgan's understated performance is just fits my bill!

The only reason Freeman got an Oscar was because he was "owed" for Driving Miss Daisy and The Shawshank Redemption. I suspect that even if Million Dollar Baby didn't have any momentum and lost Best Picture and Director, Freeman still would have won this award. It was his "time".

Personally, I don't think he even deserved to be nominated this year, but it sure is wonderful to finally say "Academy Award Winner Morgan Freeman".

I still can't believe SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION didn't win the best picture, and FORREST GUMP won instead.. :?

I saw it in the theater a few months ago. I thought it was excellent. Personally, I feel the Academy made a lot of the "right" choices (as opposed to just the more "popular" ones) this year (2005/2004 films).
