P Dutta back with Umrao Jaan

By IndiaFM News Bureau, May 13th 2005 - 1145 hrs IST

After almost a year of exile J.P. Dutta is back in the scene. The movie mogul is ready to make two new films both women centric and profound.

The first project is a brand new interpretation of Muzaffar Ali's classic epic Umrao Jaan that will feature Priyanka Chopra in the role immortalized by Rekha in 1981.

"Among the current heroines I think Priyanka has the 'It' factor. She is sensuous, graceful and a very good Kathak dancer," says J.P. Dutta when asked about his choice.

The film will go on floors in October and J P promises that his version of Umrao Jaan will be very different.

It's really disgusting that directors like Farhan Akhtar and J.P. Dutta come up with these UNoriginal stories we don't need! :x

Umrao Jaan with Rekha is a classic, so why bother remaking it?

Dutta better not go with his usual Anu Malik for the music.

*is speechless*

How and why Priyanka Chopra manages to yield such attention and favor from the industry is simply beyond me. I don't get it, I really don't. The girl can't act.

Repeat with me, J.P. Can't act... can't act... can't act...

The only film in which I found Priyanka decent was AITRAAZ.

If Farhan himself writes the screenplay of the Don remake, I'm pretty sure that it might even turn out to be superior than the original.

pryanka can act!
but i am against the remaking thing we need some original movies here, at least all the movies that are getting remade i didnt see it since its old, but was rekha playing a w**re in there? if she is watch out 4 pryanka to wear extra small and tight stuff, the only one that would be ok 4 a remake would be farhan aktar since he will change the story probly just using the base line of don ( thank god i didnt see it so dont know whats it abt)

I guess I'm one of the few that actually like the idea of a Don remake. Yeah SRK isn't the ideal choice for Don, (someone like AB Jr., John Abraham, Hritik, or Sanjay Dutt would suit the role more) but it's still one of those films that could do well with a revision. Don was one of those cool flicks, which once you update with the gadgetry of today and just stylize the hell out of it, could be a real fun film to watch. It's like the heist films that Hollywood remakes (Italian Job, Ocean's 11 etc.), and I believe Farhan Akhtar will have the style part down. Let's be honest here, Don isn't the type of film that you watch for substance so if Farhan can combine the new age style (ala DCH) with the coolness of Don, it will be an entertaining film.

I agree about Don. It's not a classic, and changing and updating it could be fun. Its not like he's remaking Sholay or Awara.
