At the risk of sounding retarded, did I even get what SHABD was trying to say or do? In trying to get ever so cerebral, it weaves a confused narrative, and leaves viewers confounded than ever. There was not a single soul in the theatre that did not squirm in their seats at the utter slow pace and the absolutely loony narrative track it seemed to take! Not that I generally sympathise with this audience for this is the same one that also encourages VEER-ZAARA types and puts into mud movies like SWADES (and I am sure now even BLACK), but they are still the paying public and need to have their say.

Certainly Dutt has screen presence and poor man did whatever he could given the script he had. Zayed Khan needs to go back to acting school kindergarten. Boy does he ever ham ! Rai is the same, no improvement regardless of how many movies she does. Absolutely horrid in the lighter scenes, more tolerable in the dramatic ones!

SHABD is a big let down from both Leena Yadav and PNC(Pritish Nandy Communications), which only recently had given us the sensitively made CHAMELI.

Among actors, Aishwarya is going to suffer the most from the failure of this film. She was in need of a hit desperately but luck has played with her again. She is totally miscast and her character is lousy. The lines and situations written for her are not well thought of and all this only makes her presence go useless on screen. Aishwarya needs to learn her lessons fast, in her attempt to make a niche for herself overseas. Even Sanjay Dutt is a misfit in his role. Zayed Khan looks impressive as far as his screen presence is concerned.

Music of the film too goes overboard and does not help to make the film any better. On the whole, Shabd is a very weak affair at the box office and will not be able to leave any mark on the audience.

The fate of the film seems to be sealed- a complete disaster! Give this one a miss!

This is one of those films that arrogantly tries to self-proclaim it self as cinematic poetry. But it's ultimately laughable, really.

I actually quite liked this film. I agree the acting performances of Aish and Zayed were not impressive AT ALL, and the songs were ALL out of place, but I liked the story and the portrayal of Shaukat by Sanjay Dutt, despite its many flaws.

Better this than the standard formula films Hindi cinema brings us every week.

I sat through this whole thing hoping at some point I will get the point of this madness. What was this all about anyway? Agreed
the acting were horrendous by "Flower Girl" and Zayed. Sanjay should have passed on this one!

I actually thought it was a really interesting film as well. Negative points were Zayed who was definitely miscast here because the character needed a much better actor. The scenes developing Zayed and Aish's romance should have been better handled and not based on childish Sardar jokes. Aish was just ok, but Sanjay Dutt was very good.

Overall though, it was a thought provoking film. It definitely could've been better executed because it was evident at times that it was a debut director, but still a very interesting concept, which actually entertained me. I don't feel like writing a full review but can discuss it further if any of you are interested.
