I really don't understand the hype for this film - I can't see why the TV rights have been sold for such a huge amount. I've seen the Tamil remake of Vikramarkudu, and it is a typical masala film. Akshay Kumar hasn't had a hit (or decent film/performance) in a couple of years, and Prabhu Deva's directorial career has been wildly inconsistent. In fact the only successful people associated with this film appear to be UTV.

Rowdy Rathore Theatrical Promo Hits The Bullseye
3 April 2012

The Rowdy Rathore theatrical promo which will hit screens this week is likely to be a rage. It is probably the best theatrical promo since Dabangg in 2010 as far as holding widest appeal for moviegoers across India especially for the initial crowd.

Rowdy Rathore has the look of a true Hindi action film while the introduction of Akshay Kumar in just the promo as well as the dialogues will get a rousing reception when it is shown across cinemas this Friday. With the box office game being about the opening, there is nothing bigger than a good theatrical promo of mass action film with a superstar. The potential opening with a mass action film is much higher than that of any other genre.

The theatrical promo of Rowdy Rathore assures it a bumper opening when it releases on 1st June and if it has one superhit song then it may even challenge the big holiday opening weekends despite being a non holiday period release.

After watching the last and sickening movie with H Roshan I would not even look at this one.The trailer is already sickening.
SLB is very very cunning.
I just hated when he cut the role of Chandra muki in Devdas to a bare minimum. Even the dance had to be shared with Paro.

I haven't seen the telugu version but I did catch the tamil version. Its a typical mass film on the lines of wanted and dabaang but this one has the hero in a double role. The ending in the tamil film was awful and i hope they have fixed that in the hindi version.

'Rowdy Rathore' Monday Business
5 June 2012

Rowdy Rathore was rock solid on Monday as it collected around 8.50-8.75 crore nett as per early estimates. The Monday collection is one of the highest off all time and the biggest of 2012 comfortably beating the figures of Agneepath and Housefull 2.

The single screen numbers for Rowdy Rathore are on par with Dabangg with the difference in the two films being at multiplexes where Dabangg had better collections.

Rowdy Rathore has now collected 56 crore nett plus in four days and is heading for a first week of around 75 crore nett. In Bihar it is looking to emerge the biggest or second biggest hit of all time.

'Rowdy Rathore' Tuesday Business
5 June 2012

Rowdy Rathore collected a huge 8 crore nett on Tuesday as all circuits were rock steady with drops in the 10% region.

Delhi/UP had a slightly bigger drop as it was very strong on Monday. the film has now collected around 64.50 crore nett in five days and a 77 crore nett week total is on the cards.

The single screen business of the film is one par with the biggest single screen hits of the last few years like Dabangg and Bodyguard.

Rowdy Rathore will have competition every week as there will be a major release every week in June but all these releases will not affect it one bit at single screens as exhibitors will continue with Rowdy Rathore as the releases have nothing to offer single screen audiences.

At multiplexes it will be different as the bew releases will get screen space and Friday will tell what sort of contribution multiplexes will give Rowdy rathore in the long run.

'Rowdy Rathore' Has Second Highest Regular First Week
8 June 2012

Rowdy Rathore has collected around 77 crore nett plus in its first week and this makes it the second highest collections ever for a regular Friday-Thursday week behind Dabangg which collected 81 crore nett.

If we take the first seven days for all films then Bodyguard, Ra.One and Agneepath are also ahead as they were released on major holidays and collected huge on these days though the collections of these films are lower than Rowdy Rathore for the Friday- Thursday period.

In terms of first seven days it is the fifth highest collection of all time after Bodyguard, Ra.One, Agneepath and Dabangg.

Rowdy Rathore has set new all time highs for the Friday-Thursday period in CI and Rajasthan.

'Rowdy Rathore' Easily Scores Over New Release 'Shanghai'
8 June 2012

Rowdy Rathore is a one horse race at the box office as it easily scores over new release Shanghai. The collections of mornings shows of Rowdy Rathore on its 8th day were better than Shanghai on its first week.

Even at premium multiplexes of metros there is not much difference while at other multiplexes Rowdy Rathore is better with twice the collections of Shanghai at places. Single screens have seen awful collections for Shanghai at around 5-10% so its not even competition for Rowdy Rathore.

The reports of Shanghai are not encouraging and so Rowdy Rathore to set to dominate the box office in its second week. From the reports of Shanghai it looks like that it will showere less growth than Rowdy Rathore over the weekend.

'Rowdy Rathore' Is First BLOCKBUSTER Of 2012
11 June 2012

Rowdy Rathore has emerged the biggest hit of 2012 and the first BLOCKBUSTER film of the year. The film is heading for nett business of around 135 crore which would make it the fourth highest grossing film of all time.

The all India distributor share of the film will be near the 75 crore mark making it a Blockbuster, Agneepath was 65 crore plus and Housefull 2 around 58 crore, both were the Super Hit films of 2012 and biggest hits of the year prior to Rowdy Rathore.

In Mumbai circuit the film may become the second biggest film of all time, it is sure to cross the business of Bodyguard and Dabangg and should also beat Golmaal 3 which is at number two in Mumbai at the moment.

Ready, the first blockbuster of 2011 also released in the same week last year and that film grossed 121 crore nett.

It's out and out Escapist cinema where you see one man killing thousands with his bare hands.
All this gore and depicting this kind of Goondaraj is not my cup of tea.

I didn't like Bodyguard, Dabang either.

And yet, this is the kind of films that collect tons of money.

------------------------
Sound was loud, not necessarily surround. Loud sound perhaps was the reason that it seemed like surround a couple of times ??

Film run time was 142 min, until end of end credits.

--------------------------

They showed Ferrari Ki Sawari trailer. Looks like, they got a dud after the super success of Three Idiots ??
Or, I'll be proven wrong again as I didn't expect much from 3 idiots either and that film turned out to be one of my all time favorites.

-------------------------

Other trailer was Shirin Farhaad Ki Tau Nikal Parhi. Good comedy but not sure if it's a big screen film material ?? No major stars.

16 June 2012

The cast and crew of Rowdy Rathore celebrated the ‘blockbuster’ success of their film at a popular 5 star hotel in the suburbs of Mumbai. The bash was organized by the production house UTV Motion Pictures.

After the bumper opening, the film has so far managed to collect Rs 110 crores at the Indian box-office in 2 weeks. Produced by Siddharth Roy Kapur and Shabhina Khan, the film continues to do well at the box-office and should cross the 130 crore mark.

Celebrating the film’s success with UTV personally looking into the invites, the party was attended by the lead stars Akshay Kumar and Sonakshi Sinha, director Prabhu Deva and producer Sanjay Leela Bhansali.

Akshay Kumar who was all smiles, said “Our hard work has paid off and we are very happy that the audiences are embracing the film”.
