It was Bollywood's date with politics as Akshay Kumar arrived in Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper's Conservative Party Campaign bus to premiere his latest offering 'Thank You' in Brampton.
Cop cars, campaign buses and crazy crowds would best describe the atmosphere at the Cineplex Silvercity in Brampton. Punjabi music blared as Kumar stepped out first followed by the Prime Minister of Canada, both greeting and shaking hands with fans both of the politician and star alike.
Akshay was vociferous in his endorsement for Mr. Harper, even dedicating the film to Canada's Prime Minister.
Stephen Harper a movie buff himself was all praises for Kumar, noting Kumar’s good looks saying “my wife says he’s not too hard the eyes.â€
“You get to do a lot of great things as prime minister ... but this is the first time I actually got to do one of the things I like doing most, which is to watch movies," said Harper before catching the beginning of the film popcorn in hand with film's star Akshay Kumar.
The highlight of the campaign stop undoubtedly though, was Laureen Harper’s brief Bollywood dance number with Akshay to the popular track 'Pyaar Do Pyaar Lo' from Thank You.
Premiering the film in Brampton is a gesture the Tories are hoping will help them win Greater Toronto Area seats with large Indo-Canadian communities, a riding currently held by Liberal incumbent Ruby Dhalla.
As Bollywood met Politics and politics gave way to Popcorn as moviegoers settled into their seats, Brampton said a definite 'Thank You' for a very filmi Friday afternoon.
