I listened to the songs. Its all mind soothing melodies (we didnt have melodies in Tamil for the last 5 years atleast). I see some similarities in this songs with VZ, MX and other recent movies, but only in the interludes. Neverthless its a very good music.

Tamil people used to listen to hindi music before Illayaraja came. Then ARR made entire India listen to his song. Now we are back to square one. IR focussing more on Symphony and other experimental albums and ARR is branded as a "patriotic MD", so Tamil ppl are looking for hindi songs again. Tamil songs are crap now a days, especially the lyrics, except if its from Kamal, Manirathnam.

Very very good album. All songs excel, except for Dhinak Dhinak Dha. What's that song doing on the album anyway? :x

I agree with you DU to some extent.

Rehman lately have not been very successful with his commercial soundtracks, namely Tehzeeb, Yuva, Lakeer.

Latest Mani, Kamal stuff was extremely disappointing for me!! Mumbai, is not worth listening despite novel arrangements by IR, lyrics r crap any ways!

I hope Parineeta that obviously looks like a time tested triangle does not go in annals of music as a super dud with everselling music like VVC's KAREEB!

Audio Review : Parineeta - Redefining music

Printer friendly page

Producer:Vidhu Vinod Chopra
Director:Pradeep Sarkar
Cast:Saif Ali Khan, Vidya Balan, Sanjay Dutt, Raima Sen, Diya Mirza, Sabyasachi Chakravarthy, Biplab Chatterjee, Achyut Potdar, Surinder Kaur
Music:Shantanu Moitra
Singers:Shreya Ghoshal, Sonu Nigam, Chitra, Sunidhi Chauhan, Rita Ganguly

The most celebrated work of art of Sarat Chandra Chattopadhayaya ‘Parineeta - The Married Woman’ is to appear in the celluloid. Pradeep Sarkar will simplify the film on screens. The script has been retouched by Vinod Chopra and Pradeep Sarkar. The hit pair of ‘Munna Bhai MBBS’ Vidhu Vinod Chopra and Sanjay Dutt can be seen together again along with Saif Ali Khan, Vidya Balan, and Raima Sen. Also appearing in a cameo are Dia Mirza and Rekha.

The music of the film is by Shantanu Moitra and the lyrics are penned by Swanand Kirkire. The plot of the film is based on a timeless story and so the music follows an unconventional route too. It’s not the regular kind of stuff that we encounter everyday. The tunes are soulful and earthy and may not find many takers to its credit. But it is sure to impress the classy and the elite.

The first track itself bowls you over with melody. ‘Piyu Bole’ is a treat by Shreya Ghoshal and Sonu Nigam. In their voice the song passes with sheer comfort. The tune is slow but all the while refreshing. This romantic duet gets its potency with the imbibing music and the refined lyrics that compare love to all the natural things of the earth. Just let your soul rejuvenate with it.

‘Kasto Mazaa’ has the visual appeal on screen what ‘Mere Sapno Ki Rani’ had. The song expresses a lover in search of his love in an expressive manner. The simplicity of the words and music takes over you again. Another extravagant affair by Sonu Nigam and Shreya Ghoshal who deserve to walk away with all the applause.

By now softness has filled the air and ‘Raat Hamari Ho’ in no way hinders it. Another free flowing track that leaves its mark on your heart and soul. Chitra passes muster with her voice. The music is more Bengali folk based and reflects a feel of tranquility of a dark night through the words. This is truly a classical affair!

‘Kaisi Paheli’ takes you decades back as Sunidhi Chauhan transcends into a classical western show. She waltzes across the octaves with ease and sets another path breaking song to her career. Shantanu Moitra goes beyond all expectations with this song. The lyrics can be said as superlative. If the audio has strummed you over, the visual will be no less appealing featuring glamorous Rekha ruling the screen.

In the vocals of Sonu Nigam and Shreya Ghoshal again appears ‘Soona Mann Ka Aangan’. The heart touching lyrics and the penetrating voice along with the top-notch vocals just casts a spell. Representing varied shades of mood, this is another likeable tune.

A traditional song on the ode of a wedding is ‘Dhinak Dhinak Dha’. This is a fun filled song and Rita Ganguly do the most justice to it. Though the track is situational it appears to be in good mirth for the audio too.

For another duet track ‘Hui Main Parineeta’ Sonu Nigam and Shreya Ghoshal gets together again. This song is based on the underlying thread of the tune ‘Piyu Bole’. Though the track represents love but the tone is graver compared to the first song.

Your search for something different ends with Parineeta. The scores are just tailor made for the appeal and impact of the film. You understand music with taste and sensibilities through this different effort. For one and all this is a representation of class and splendor. Surely its worth a trip to the neighbourhood superstore!

It was supposed to be a songless movie, and then IR introduced the monkey song only. But then they eventually extended to other two songs, one is totall cut from the movie. Remember IR songs always goes with movies, its not a pop album. Kamal-IR always did a great job and I dont know if you listened to Virumandi, but to produce song like Virumand for any other MD in india would take thousands of years (or probably impossible). Here is the music where the tune is same, but the instruments are different, so does the lyrics, one to reflect the evil (approver - pasupathi's point of view) and the other to reflect the good (accused - kamal's point of view). I probably watched this movie atleast 50 times in DVD, each time specifically for the direction and BGM and everytime its breath taking.

MX didnt reach well because of all the issues with censor and Digital technology, but the best review that I respect (Vikatan) applauded the Vande Matharam song (which again changed to different tamil song due to ensor), but neverthless, if you want fresh air, MX is the way to go.

Anyways, I am now more excited for Phehli (SRK), needless to say Thiruvasagam Symphony by Illayaraja.

Rahman now is branded as a "patriotic MD" so I dont expect any commercial hit from Rahman, atleast in Tamil. The only hope I have for Tamil is if Vairamuthu (Lyrist) join hands with IR. Then its non stop exceitement for Tamil ppl. IR and Vm has to give up their ego :(

I have an uneasy feeling about this song " Kasisi Paheli Zindagani" Seems like a rip from Connie Francis:" Never on a Sunday"? Also Nana Mouskouri The Greek Version! Same jazzy feeling!

PB gives the soundtrack of "Parineeta" a perfect 10!

Parineeta

Director: Pradeep Sarkar
Starring: Saif Ali Khan, Sanjay Dutt, (introducing) Vidya Balan, Raima Sen
Music: Shantanu Moitra
Lyrics: Swanand Kirkire
Singers: Shreya Ghoshal, Sonu Nigam, Chitra, Swanand Kirkire, Sunidhi Chauhan, Rita Ganguly
Audio On: Tips
Number of Songs: 7
Released on: April, 2005
Reviewed by: Ron Ahluwalia
Reviewer's Rating: 10 out of 10

Vidhu Vinod Chopra seems to have taken the Ram Gopal Verma and Karan Johar route of abandoning directing for producing; his latest, Parineeta, is Pradeep Sarkar’s film rendition of Sarat Chandra Chattopadhaya’s acclaimed novel by the same name. Much has been said about Saif Ali Khan’s and newcomer Vidya Balan’s performances, and Sanjay Dutt’s Bengali dance, but the music is the real hero. Soundtracks that are perfect 10s are hard to come by and are not expected from lesser-known music directors and lyricists like Shantanu Moitra and Swandand Kirkire. But they have pulled off one of the best soundtracks in a long time. Parineeta is...Wow!

Can you have a movie version of a Chattopadhaya novel without Shreya Ghoshal? Piyu Bole is a fabulous duet between Ghoshal and Sonu Nigam. When you have two of the most talented singers in Bollywood together, singing Swanand Kirkire’s soulful potrey put to Moitra’s melodious tunes, you get pure magic. Piyu Bole tells you the entire soundtrack to Parineeta will be a treat. The English at the beginning is awkward and unnecessary, but can easily be overlooked. Nonetheless, this song is spectacular.

Sonu Nigam is in his trademark element in Kasto Maza. The song is definitely sung on a train, and the sound of a train on its tracks in maintained throughout the whole song-good for you Mr. Moitra. The chorus of children is actually entertaining and almost appropriate for a train song. You’ll hear Shreya Ghoshal make a one-line appearance close to the end of the song. This tactic usually gives Hindi songs a quality of randomness, thus adding realism to the song’s situation.

Chitra is easily the most underrated singer in Bollywood history. After songs like Kehna Hi Kya (Bombay), Raat Ka Nasha (Asoka), Mere Dil Ka Tumse Hai Kehna (Armaan) and Koi Mil Gaya (Koi Mil Gaya), she has yet to get her due. In Raat Humari To, she lets you know that another singer has not sung better this year. Please give her all awards now. Swanand Kirkire’s lyrics are just amazing and he even sings a few lines at the beginning of the song. Shantanu Moitra is obviously inspired by AR Rehman, but that’s ok (you can never have enough AR Rehman). Raat Humari To is one of the best songs in Parineeta.

Kaise Paheli Zindagani is a hit! Moitra’s composition takes you back to the black and white Hollywood movie days, with the arrangement of the piano, trumpets, and drums being a sign of a versatile composer. Sunidhi Chauhan surprises with her light and restrained vocals with the right amount of masti. Usually known for more racy numbers, Chauhan shows that she is right at home with songs of any tempo and any genre. The background singers only enhance the authentic aura of the song. The repeat button on stereos was made for songs like this!

Wedding songs have always been situational in Indian cinema, but few are like Dhinak Dhinak Dha. Rita Ganguly’s raspy voice is a welcome change from regulars like Sapna Awasthi. The lyrics are slightly reminiscent of Rukmini Rukmini from Roja, but Ganguly’s character of mausi and Kirkire’s conversational, Punjabi gidda lyrics are fun and fresh. Moitra’s composition sounds like Vishal Bhardwaj’s Jhinmin Jhinni from Maqbool. But who cares what the inspirations for this song might be-this song rocks so get up and dance.

Soona Mann Ka Aangan is more of the magic from Piyu Bole. The song is soft in composition, using many traditional Indian and Western string instruments, which blend exquisitely. Sonu Nigam brings forth raw emotion in his performance. The resonance in Shreya Ghoshal’s voice is beautiful. Lyrics, again, are top notch. To elaborate on Soona Mann Ka Aangan would mean the addition of more superlatives.

Another doseage of Nigam and Ghoshal is just what the doctor ordered. Hui Main Parineeta is a slow, intimate song of the same tune as Piyu Bole. The background sitar is tranquillising. Sonu Nigam uses his deep voice and succeeds to no end. Shreya Ghoshal is Shreya Ghoshal: prefect. What a great way to end an almost flawless soundtrack.

After a while, praising the soundtrack of Parineeta leaves you at a loss for superlatives. In each song, the trend was great singing, great composition, and great lyrics. To pick the best of the best is hard, but Kaisi Paheli Zindagani stays with you the longest because it is so hatke from the rest of the soundtrack-and Bollywood in general. In a nutshell, buy two original copies of Parineeta, just in case the first one gets ruined because you listened to it so much...

Well, I finally got around listening to the entire music of Parineeta and I wasn't too impressed overall. I like "Piyu Bole", but it teases to mimic an incomparably better song, "Rooth Na Jana" from 1942 A Love Story. "Kaisi Paheli Zindgani" is the other song I like, I think this is the first hindi film song I've ever heard with Jazz flavour taking complete control over it's composition.
